Who wants a 2023 $100K mid size pickup with a $10K near worthless option? Nows your chance.

Rivian doesn't often make obviously avoidable errors. But their solution to delivering on max pack is certainly one. R!T max pack is priced similarly as the Silverado EV RST with 220+ kwh battery.

The poor value may be more acceptable on the R1S as I assume pickup buyers are more sensitive about value for utility. I assume all R1S buyers are soccer moms at heart :) (I don't really mean the smiley face)

Yes, in $/kWh it does not seem like a good deal. That doesn’t mean someone out there won’t find utility in that option. It makes me think if Rivian will beef up the Max pack offering or add a Largerest Pack.

We received the R1S Dual Motor Max Pack this week and both of our children play travel soccer :CWL:
I saw today that Vanderbilt is the first university to estimate one year cost at $100K. So don't worry, in the bigger picture the extra $10K is a trivial expenditure.

Maybe they’ll quietly start pushing them as a no charge upgrade to clear them out?

That’s one feature I think they screwed up on, and should just discontinue. Buying again, what I have is plenty, I don’t have range anxiety at all. I would get the same size battery next time.

It took almost 2 years before the $30K+ markups for the Hummer EV disappeared.

Chevy/GM can't produce non-Bolt EVs at scale and you will have the take it up the butt to buy one from a dealer.

I'm pretty happy having the Max pack. I frequently go on longer trips and often, the extra 40 miles make the difference between a one or two stopper. In this case, I say if you can spare the extra change, go for it. Also remember that charging time per mile is reduced, making most stops quicker. But also agree, Max doesn't make sense for mostly local driving

Let us know when you actually get a chance to take delivery of one. Some folks are finally being allowed to order the work truck version and MSRP + delivery is over $80,000. It’ll give you time to reinforce your driveway for that 9,000 pounds

I agree. To date Chevy doesn't seem to want to sell their Silverado EVs. But now battery supply has opened up and cell prices have dropped. So perhaps that will change. Dropping the price last week was a stange move if they don't plan to actually deliver the big battery versions.

One possibility is that, due to low total EV demand , they are no longer concerned about pickup and Hummer using up Ultium production. The RVT allows for owning a very large battery without being a jerk with a Hummer.

Too bad Rivian doesn't use the extra space under the R1T to do a real max pack. But It's understandable Rivian wants to put development into the R1S as the potential market is much larger.

The Silverado is way too heavy, can't wait to hear about tread life. The efficiency is not great either, but a good option for towing. I would maybe consider the 3WT if it had the mid-gate.

No, they should just make all the LP with the 142/149 pack. Then reintroduce the 180kwh MP.

RVT is a lot lighter than the Unimog U500 I owned. Size is relative to other vehicles and use case.

Rivian is likely less efficient than full size pickup EVs on a volume basis. Using a Rivian as a daily driver is operating one of the least efficient EVs that can be comfortably driven around town.

The R1T MP demand would have improved if they actually came out with a real MP at a fair up-charge.
Many truck buyers need the KW, hopefully this happens sometime after the pre-order holders have been cleared out.
