I think automakers are being too slow to fully embrace the possibilities of a big touch screen. Before big touchscreens automakers had to limit the number of settings available or else the interface would become ungainly, but that is just not an issue any more. With a big touchscreen, it would be easy to add hundreds or thousands of settings without the interface becoming unreasonably difficult to use.

There should never be a need to say "no, don't add that software feature - it would be super annoying". Everything that legally can be turned on/off or configured should have a user-accessible setting.

So yes, Rivian should add a lift-gate warning chime - and they should make it optional and configurable.

Also, warning chimes should have a "yes, I know I am doing that, please ignore it this time, but let me know if I do it again" button you can click so you don't have to permanently disable the warning but you also don't have to listen to it the whole drive when you are intentionally doing it.

I agree but a quick audio ding dong would be great especially for the R1S liftgate. The rearview camera would only be on if your in reverse, in this case she was only going forward. Also, there is no audio warning I think when a door is open. Those are basic safety issues that should be addressed. The audio doesnt have to repeat but a quick audio alarm door open liftgate open would be smart I think.
My response related to the R1T tailgate question. An open liftgate is an entirely different animal. You're never likely to need the camera view of the open tailgate unless you're in reverse (in the R1T).

As for "no audio warning when a door is open", unless that has been deleted on the R1S or later builds of the R1T, I don't see how much more you could ask for than:
1) A chime when you attempt to move the vehicle with a door open
2) A message that the door is open
3) A visual representation of the vehicle showing which door is open, and...wait for it...
4) Refusal by the vehicle to move when a door is open (including a message that it was automatically shifted back to Park.)

My R1S does give an audible tone and puts a message on the driver screen when I start to drive with the lift gate open. ??‍♂

Yes, mine does too. It did this today when I was hauling my kayak. I was not expecting it based on the OP’s comments, but the warning was more than adequate.
