I would never have noticed except I was outside of the car and someone else had fastened their seatbelt to drive. When I drive I never look down at my seatbelt. It appears the seatbelt is rubbing inside the wall and causing it to fray quite badly. Our R1S has ~5,000 miles on it. We’ve had Toyotas with 150,000 miles on them that didn’t have seatbelts fray like this.

Its not visible until you pull your seatbelt out from the wall ~18-24 inches.

Have you been wearing a lot of sequined or bedazzled clothing lately?

😅 I’m pretty much boardshorts, cotton t-shirt, and flip flops 24/7… don’t think that’s the issue. 🩴 🏝

Got a call from service same day I submitted the ticket for the seatbelt. They told me the week after Easter (next week) their schedule was wide open and I could come in any day of the week at any time of day to get this fixed. I scheduled my appointment for next week….

… 30 mins later, another call from service but a different representative. “I’m calling to schedule service for your seatbelt fraying. I just want to let you know in advance we are fully booked and the earliest we can get you in is July….”

Amazed at how the left and right hands at Rivian continue to not know what the other is doing… Everything depends on who you talk to.

Frying seatbelt is a safety issue, so maybe a recall coming.

Did this get resolved for you when you came in for service?

Noticed fraying on the seatbelts in my car, but curious what the fix is here since I doubt that I got a bum batch of seatbelt material for 5 belts in my car so much as this is just what happens to Rivian’s seatbelts.

Mine is same. Might be a safety issue...seems plausible. Maybe needs a recall?

The fraying is a sign of manufacturing defect and while it may not fail, I've never seen a seatbelt fray in any vehicle I've owned ever. Personally I'd put in the ticket add comments and pictures and they should replace it. If the appearance annoys you AFTER the ticket while waiting hit it with a lighter lightly to melt the frays, sealing them up like one would do with cut paracord.

Rivian replaced the belts affected. Haven’t had the problem since. I wouldn’t touch the belts yourself. Let Rivian deal with them under warranty.

Awesome. Thank you. Yeah, I’m not much of DIY person and this certainly doesn’t strike me as a DIY job.

I’ll set up a service ticket and go from there. Much obliged on the feedback.

I've seen some pretty disassembled R1's on this site but agree wouldn't want to undertake it DIY as I think there is a side/curtain airbag in the doorframe.
