Updated to the 26.03 software late Friday night. Drove it with no issues all day, did a launch up to like 70 mph with the kids yesterday, still no issues.

This morning, I did another launch, with a max speed of 67 mph, and then switched to AP mode, and got on the highway like normal. Half a mile down the highway, going 70ish, I hear a thump under the front of the R1S, and think "Great, flat tire." But then I get a turtle symbol on the dash, and the front motors are not providing and power or regen to the wheels.

I'm 120ish miles away from the closest service center. Rivian is providing a rental car and a tow to the closest SC. We'll see what they say. I am expecting everything to be covered by warranty, I'll put up a significant fight if they try to claim it's not covered.

Any G1 owners experience anything similar?

I haven't exactly driven it hard. Some normal hard accelerations, but nothing crazy. A bit concerning that the second use of launch mode ever on a G1 would cause this.

If it matters I am a Sept 2023 delivery, VIN 22k or so.

There’s no telling what caused your front motor failure. Could it have been the launch, maybe - but unlikely since the issue didn’t show up immediately during the launch. Just as likely it’s a random failure like any other that have been posted about on the forum. People have been launching their Rivians for years with no correlation to the failure you experienced. Launching is not new, just the method of doing it.

No matter the cause, I’m sure Rivian will get you fixed up and on the road again s00n.

Please keep us informed on what Rivian says happened. I wouldn’t rule out Launch mode since this obviously puts the greatest stress on parts of the motor and related components. I could see something like partial failure happening immediately (like a crack) proceeding to full failure. Like a rock chip on a windshield that eventually spreads.

Very brave to use launch mode on Gen 1. I'm babying my new front motor and half shafts. Still too much play.

Fixed under warranty, tow was covered and a rental car was provided. Failed front driver side halfshaft that disconnected from the drive unit.

A bit of a hassle since the service center is about 2 hours from my house, so I had to drive there to pick it up. Not Rivian's fault, though.

I also dropped my rental car off after hours, and locked my wallet in it. No one will be there until Monday, and I'm sure I'll have to drive all the way back to get it. So that sucks. A real comedy of errors on my end.

I had the same thing happen early with my 23 S. Was a quick fix and never happened again. Two year later Rivian swapped both front half shafts for "play". Again an easy fix. Hope you are sorted as well.
