Here is our issue and I contacted Rivian and they said I could do what I asked, but I think he was thinking about a R1T and I have a R1S...I asked for front and middle fan speeds & temp controls to be separate like the rear seats are. Why on earth is the front and middle tied together on the R1S when the middle has a screen to control what I would hope would be fan speed and temp!

I can find no way to control front and middle separate. What I really want is 6 zones, each side and seat can control temp and fan speed like Lucid and Porsche (at least front seats). Am I doing something wrong? How can you control the fan and temp for front and middle independantly?

Last, is 6 independent zones coming?

Someone mentioned HVAC upgrades, more zones, separation, something like that recently. There is an update in Beta version but not sure what it is.

I think the system is reported to have more capability than what is currently implemented. Hard to say how much but step 1 seemed to be revising the rear screen to even control it. My guess is that it will be three zone plus ventilation control for the third row at best.

You're assuming that there are separate fans for front and middle. That may be an incorrect assumption. It's entirely possible that there is one fan pressurizing the front ducts as well as a duct under the console/carpet/floor to the 2nd row.

I can say with 100% confidence that 6 independent heating and cooling zones isn't happening.

The 3rd row has no heat and no cooling and it never will. It isn't a software limitation, the 3rd row vents are not physically connected to any heating or cooling hardware. All you will ever get back there is a fan. Because that is all there is.

In the summer the 3rd row blows hot air and in the winter it blows cold air. Rivian obviously doesn't actually expect any one to use the 3rd row. We do though, and my kids have to wear gloves back there in the winter while I am sweating in the front.

The 2nd row does have physical connections to the hot/cold air sources so there is at least some possibility that the second row could be separate zones. But I do not believe anyone has publicly documented the AC hardware to confirm it is physically capable of sending a different type of air to the second row than it sends to the first. It might be. It might not.

Three or four zones might be possible in a future software update. But six definitely isn't.

At least separate zones for Driver & Passanger.

Tri zone climate is supposed to be coming but I doubt it will allow adjusting 2nd row fan speed independently. Rivian may be doing something with the dampers in the vent system to increase or decrease the temps or reduce the air output.
