Just crossed 60k miles on our 2022 Launch Edition R1S. After reading a post from @RickRossTheBoss, I decided to spend the $250 on the comprehensive inspection before the warranty expired. I scheduled it with about 100 miles left on the 60k warranty, and it definitely paid off.

Covered under warranty:
  • Replaced left rear and right rear upper lateral links (ball joint play)
  • Replaced left and right rear damper (leaking)
Other than a $2,250 windshield replacement, we've only spent about $250 on the vehicle in 60k miles.

The service center was great. Quick communication, got us in early because the warranty was about to expire, and the suspension feel noticeably tighter now.

Thoughts on the Gen2 Dual Motor Performance Max Pack loaner:
  • Higher-resolution cameras are a nice upgrade.
  • Autonomy is genuinely useful—I’ll miss it going back to my Gen1.
  • The throttle in All-Purpose mode felt much less responsive than my Gen1. Maybe another drive mode would help, but I wasn't a fan.
  • Ride quality felt about the same.
  • Kids loved the push-button door release.
  • Adaptive Matrix headlights were excellent, especially for spotting deer on the edges of the road.
  • HVAC was quieter and seemed to cool the cabin more effectively.
  • Efficiency was noticeably better on my comparable commute (photos below).
After a week with the Gen2, I actually felt less urgency to upgrade. Efficiency and autonomy would be the two big things that could convince me. The efficiency gains are impressive, and they give me confidence Rivian can achieve the R2's efficiency targets.

Ohio's franchise laws mean our service centers can't demo or sell R2s, but I did get to see my first one in Catalina Cove waiting for customer delivery. It's a great-looking vehicle, and I'm still torn between keeping the R1S a while longer or moving to an R2.

Felt the same after getting multiple gen 2 loaners while my 22 R1t was in service. Wish I could combine the things I love about my gen 1 with gen 2. Hoping gen 3 is that

I have never scored a Gen 2 loaner in ATL or Franklin. Can't recall seeing a Gen2 loaner for that matter. Maybe that will change in a couple of weeks when I take our R1S in for service if they have to send me home without ours.

@oliv3r Is this your R2? I should've taken a picture of the VIN, but was in a hurry.

Not sure, I don't have a VIN or anything scheduled yet. This was at Cleveland or Columbus service center?
