I just had a Gen2 DM loaner yesterday, and concur, I'll be holding onto my Gen1 quad for longer. The sound system was terrible, granted not the "premium," it had decent torque at low speeds but sluggish at highway speeds where you really need it, I really don't like the forced Conserve mode and slow to engage rear motor.

The improved cameras and ADAS were great, but not worth what I'd be giving up. I'll stick with the powerful devil I know over the devil I don't. Plus the same money difference is literally what I'd spend on a used Airstream, so I'd rather have that with my quad.
Quad to a DM definitely doesn't make sense, unless someone really doesn't care about the acceleration (I imagine most appreciate it even if for the ease of merging onto freeways, if nothing else). Even then, you'd really have to value the ADAS improvement to voluntarily downgrade your performance. Premium sound seems comparable to my non-Meridian system in my 23 QM - neither are fantastic, just fine.

I find the acceleration in the Dual Standard to be more than adequate off the line. Where it really bogs down is with the rear motor disconnect/re-engage. Very clunky. Can't wait to see how quick we eat up tires too with no ability to lock both motors for anything other than highway driving!

The lack of higher speed acceleration was what nixed it for me. I'm not a speed demon, I just want to spend as little time as possible next to the semi or landscaping company truck billowing debris.

To which, I do not. It'll be great in the R2, and I'm sure at least 1 person in my family will get one, if not my wife. We'll see how RAV4 Prime trade-in offers are in a year!

Look at the financial aspect (before you get too enamored with idea of a new car). If it computes and you’re still unsure, just flip a coin. Honestly, moot to look to strangers—who don’t walk in your shoes and don’t pay your bills—for confirmation. There are already countless posts and videos (dating back Gen2 launch day) covering differences, pros and cons, between the two generations. Whether that difference is worth the money gap is 100% subjective—pending what is important to you.

Well, a bit of a road block for me - my trade is $67k that they will cut me a check for, but I can’t apply it to the lease so if I buy the car out of the lease (or use $$ to reduce the capital cost), I have to pay full sales tax. That’s a ton in Mass. It went from kind of dumb to rather dumb. Still not sure if I am going to do it. I am also pondering if leasing is better “just in case”. Incidentally Carvana’s offer was $10k less than what rivian is offering so i do feel like residuals on these aren’t great so it may be best to lock in a value and just lease (is this me talking myself into something . . . Perhaps).
