Sources for 12v constant power in the cabin?

I used an ecoflow to power my small cooler and it charges from the 12V and the cooler is powered by the 12V on the ecoflow.

This is the way. I haven’t noticed any heat dissipation from my echoflow. It also isolates your appliance from the vehicle.

Zero chance that I'd put a lithium battery in a vehicle that's well over 130 degrees. That's insane. I've already experience what can happen with a battery jump starter, at least it was a mild mess and not the disaster it could have been.

I also have to laugh at throwing away a grand on a battery to sit inside of a giant battery. I even feel stupid putting two LiFePO4s on the travel trailer, forgetting it would be attached to a giant battery. That was a total waste.

I just upgraded to LifePo4 on my TT. I can't believe they are still selling them with flooded lead acid batteries.

I also upgraded my solar charge controller from PWM to MPPT. At least with the TT it's more about if I'm away from it with the truck.

PREACH!!! "But lithium is so expensive," my friends tell me. Ok, they have a 10 year warranty, and you spend how much for the cheap lead acids every three years? Plus they suck the entire time?

But looking back, one would be fine, with the truck as backup.

Hey, if you're looking for a 2048Wh battery, then yeah, you'll drop a stack. But I got a 768Wh for only $200. And it doesn't get that hot in the gear tunnel. The highest I've seen on the Ecoflow app is 105, and it's been super hot here in Texas. I also use the battery to power my laptop, which needs more than the usual 20W that the USB ports provide.

I've got your solution:

• Get an ECOFLOW Power Station big enough to power your fridge
• Get the ECOFLOW 100W Flexible Solar Panel (or two of them) and mount them on the inside of your glass roof!

You'll probably lose some efficiency mounting them on the inside, but you'll gain from the truck not getting so hot since you've blocked the sunroof.

Of course, I have no idea (or guarantee) that it will work but the thought of completely draining my pathetic little 12V battery (I only have one in my R1S) scares me!

I feel like people seriously recommending a battery inside a hot vehicle with a huge battery are joking. But no, never. I'm well aware of this option, but no. I own plenty of them already too.

So I just got a fridge for my R1S, read the manual last night and there is a note in there, if you want 12V on all day long then turn the outlets on. I'm currently testing that now, it 100% stays on, though my fridge definitely struggles to keep temp with the car baking in the sun.

Is your fridge compressor based or thermoelectric? Brand and model if you don't know. Thermo will never work in summer.

Hey it wasn't that bad here. I got a redodo from Amazon. Group 24 100ah LifePo4. I paid $260. Then my charge controller was another $100. Then a temp sensor to stop the solar from charging it below 40f was an extra $40. I like that I can wire more in series later on if I want. Unlike a flooded lead I can actually use that 100ah.

Wife says she wants something bigger though so I probably won't do too much more with this rig.

Just be careful...I don't want to see that your ride was bricked because the 12V system died. Would you be better off getting a 120VAC-12VDC Converter and using that plugged into an outlet instead? At least then you're running off the main battery and don't have to worry about draining your 12V battery.

There is a 1500w inverter under the passenger seat. It doesn't run off the 12v system AFAIK. I believe there is a step down and it runs directly off the HV. The 12v batteries in these trucks is a weak link.

I was really hoping with Gen 2 that Rivian would put a larger inverter in there and give us some 240v power in the bed/cargo area.

I get that these portable battery power boxes are rated to operate in a certain range and you want to be safety conscious. Maybe you could share more about your use case and why you would indefinitely run a fridge in 130 temps inside your vehicle. I would be concerned about overheating the inverter with long term use. Why not run the HVAC in pet mode?
