My wife and I are getting older and getting in and out of very tall (or very short) vehicles is getting harder. If anybody is at SXSW with a measuring tape, I would be eternally grateful if they could measure the step in height. Thanks in advance.

The converse is that getting out by stepping down from the R2 will be a lot easier than getting up out of a low sedan-like vehicle.

If you find it to be a problem then it's correctable - a running board will help immensely.

Right. Currently my Renegade is about perfect for height. Any taller step in may be a problem.
The problem with running boards is the RWD long range is on the ragged edge of what I want to spend (or slightly beyond it). If i need to spend $1K or $2k for a running board on top of that...

The ground clearance for the R2 is 9.6 inches. That's pretty high. About the same as a Jeep Wrangler, which means it is tougher to get in for shorter/older people. You'll probably want to add aftermarket running boards. That makes both entry and exit easier. As an added bonus it saves wear and tear on the seats. If you've ever owned a vehicle that is high, you know you're constantly "sliding" off the seat when exiting.

Thanks. The ground clearance on my Jeep is about 6.5 inches. The step in height is 19.5 inches. So a pretty big diff. I'm hoping that with the floor of the R2 sitting on the battery, that it is roughly the same. So, I am still interested in the actual step in height.

That's fair. But the RWD Standard isn't going to be available for another year. And since it doesn't have active suspension it's not clear to me the ground clearance will be the same as the Launch Edition - and we won't find that out for a long time.

If you think you might want an R2, I would suggest putting down your $100 refundable deposit just in case - you can always get it back if the RWD isn't suitable for any reason when it comes out next year, and if you deposit now you will be high on the list when it does finally become available.

Agreed. I put down my deposit 11/24. I like almost everything about the R2. I dont need AWD and I think the LIDAR and upgraded computer, long term will be beficial to the driver. Unlike most apparently, I am very interested in the self driving aspects yet to come. I have glaucoma which may someday rob me of my vision. With advanced L3 and L4, a blind man could concievably still be "driving".

Yes, sliding on/off the seat in my Jeep Grand Cherokee has damaged the driver seat. Fortunately I was able to find a nice seat cover that fit and matched the color.

I don't think I could get out of my Corvette if I still had it now that I am so much older!

You want seat height stats as well:
"11.5 inches from the floor to the top of the front of the seat" [R2 2nd row] ... "1.5 inches shorter than R1s" [not verified]

Grab bar, step in height, seat height. All part of the "can I comfortably get in and out of this vehicle" questiion. Still looking for the step in height.

Keep in mind that the Rivian uses floor embedded battery packs. This adds bit more hight than any ICEV by few inches. Cannot go by the ground clearance alone.

We own R1S and my wife is 5-2 and is her daily vehicle. Had to install a running board because the added height of the floor AND the seat height to ease ingress/egress.

R2 should be in most of the Spaces very soon so you'll be able to test it out.

Not sure about that. Between the differential and the other stuff underneath, my Jeep step in height is almost a foot higher than the ground clearance. With the floor of the R2 sitting on the battery pack, I expect floor height minus ground cleance to be less than the Jeep. We will see
