I agree that most of the recent images and views do not have grab handles (oh sh1t handles!), so that is something I'm very interested in finding out more about. I have a few elderly family members that use them regularly when getting in out of the car, not to mention my kids using them daily in the current car.

Does Rivian intend to offer RB's as an option? Whether or not, the answer is important because in addition to the cost of any RB's is the potential cost of having to remove them before Rivian SC's do any service on them. I've used 3 different SC here in the Seattle area for my T and it's been hit and miss as to whether they ask me to remove before servicing or not. If I don't remove them before, I'll be charged an hourly rate for their removal. I'm not confident Rivian has learned and implemented anything from the R1/running boards experience to overcome this annoying issue on the R2. As much as we love our T, the cost of RB's on a R2 and it's routine maintenance issues is something that we will have to factor in if my better half really wants this vehicle. I don't want to have to remove 2 sets of RB's for 2 Rivians. I'm not getting younger myself.
Rivian doesn't offer running boards for the R1 so I certainly don't think they will offer them for the R2 either. With aftermarket running boards, you have to choose ones with certified OEM accessible jack points. I have had 3 different sets of RBs from EV Sportline (2 previous R1Ts and current R1S) and have never needed to remove them for service, at three different SCs (Cleveland, Columbus, and Gaithersburg).

I kinda agree with you, I don't think Rivian will offer running boards or rock sliders for R2. I'm glad your experience with SC's in your area is more consistent than here in the NW. I too installed EV Sportline rb's on my T given that their website claims that they will not interfere with Rivian jack points. That's as close to any "certification" as I've found from EV Sportline.

If you or anyone else checking this thread is aware of any aftermarket rb's or sliders that are certified by Rivian themselves, please share! I and my better half would be ecstatic. It would make our decision on the R2 a piece of cake! Thanks!

My wife and I are in the same boat. I've been following for some positive input. The best I've been able to find is a very quick shot of two young ladies stepping out of an R2 at SXSW. It is encouraging. Pause the video at 25 seconds, and click on the line at the bottom and step through 1 second at a time.

Good eye. That is encouraging. It looks like the step in is a couple of inches below her knee. My Renegade's step in height is a couple of inches below my (6'1 male) knee. So the step in height might be lower than my Jeep. Thanks

I have the opposite problem. Being 6'4", the R2 will be a bit awkward to get in and out of because it is so much lower than our current car ('23 Ford Bronco Sport). I will need to fold up like a pretzel to dip my head under the top of the door opening. The higher height is exactly why I've opted for an SUVs these past many years.

I think you might be OK. The bronco sport carries its height to the rear due to the big step up in the roof. At the drivers door it does not seem to be much higher at all than R2, according to this side by side image from a Reddit poster In his out of spec video, Kyle also mentioned that the seat adjusts very low to the floor.

Just some additional pics that indicates no grab handles, for any that care. The Configurator interior 360 view doesn’t show any. And the test drive/review videos do not show any.

Best view below that I can recall seeing for someone entering or leaving the R2. He says he is 6'2". Full video here that should link to this time stamp. He follows this by getting into the rear seat.

In the absence of any measurements at this time, a quick swag for step in height would be 9.8" ground clearance plus 4695 battery cell height of 3.75", which puts the R2 floor at an unrealistic ~13.5" absolute minimum. Added to that would be the battery pack casing/protection below and above the cells. Looking at the R2 battery pack images suggests maybe an additional 2-3", and the door sill height above the floor, maybe another 1-2". So a step in height estimate of about 16.5"-18.5". As a sanity check to compare to the image, I am ~5'10" and the top of my calf is ~18" wearing a similar shoe.

Thats good. My Renegade has a stepin of 19.4 in. If the R2 is 21 or so or less, I should be golden. Thanks

This is probably as good an idea that we're going to get. But, I like it. First of all, it shows off the Catalina Cove color beautifully in sun, and shade. At about 1:20, the host sits down in the front seat. Not climb in, but just, easily sitting in.
