Supercharger Advice and Info Help

I am looking at the Tesla site for the superchargers but this is my first time attempting using them.

I see several options: supercharger, supercharger open to other EVs and Superchargers Open to NACS.

Is it safe to assume if it just shows supercharger - Rivian can’t use it? But an R1S could use the two other options (supercharger open to other EVs and Superchargers Open to NACS)?

I just don’t want to mess up and get stranded. I am in Texas and looking to make a trip west’s

Of the three options:
Superchargers - every available superchargers for Tesla's to use, this includes v1-4 stations.
Superchargers open to other EV's - Stations equipped with built in ccs adapters, these are also known as "magic dock" stations. These superchargers are open to any EV.
Superchargers Open to NACS - These superchargers are open to ccs vehicles like Rivians (also Ford/GM/ect) that can use a adapter to charge at the station. You do need your own adapter to use these chargers. Only the magic dock stations have an adapter built in.

Keep in mind you can set filters in your rivian map and phone app to see tesla stations that are available to you. by default it filters out stations that require an adapter, but if you have one then you can clear that filter. Your rivian will not show tesla superchargers that are not enabled for you to use. Edit: It will show them if you turn off the "Incompatible" filter, but it will be grayed out and warn you that you can't charge at them. It will only show magic dock or open to nacs stations (when you filter for them properly based on if you have an adapter or not)

So if you want to filter stations that you can use with your Rivian, you want to check the two options that are open to other ev's and open to nacs.

@Joseph D is spot on here. To make it even easier, don't use the Tesla app to search. Use the Rivian app, and make sure you enable chargers that require an adaptor. If you only want to see compatible Tesla chargers for some reason, you can limit it to just Tesla too.

If you have a NACS adaptor, you can use any Tesla supercharger that the Rivian app shows when the "Hide" option for "Adaptor needed" is turned off. If you don't have a NACS adaptor, you can still use any of the Tesla superchargers shown when that same switch is on.

You cannot use any of the "Incompatible" Tesla superchargers, however, as that usually means they're too old to be compatible with non-Tesla vehicles.

Happy to help! It's definitely a bit confusing at first, so ask any questions you may have.

It's important to note that Tesla Superchargers (fast charging) and Tesla Destination Chargers (slower, L2) are different and each require their own adaptor if you plan to use them. Superchargers use NACS to CCS adaptors for fast charging mid-drive, and Destination chargers are slow chargers that are usually found at hotels or AirBnB locations typically for overnight charging.
