Can a Tesla wall charger (not universal) be used to charge a new 2025 R1T with an adapter? I have heard of incompatibility issues that could cause battery damage??
Yes, you can use a Tesla wall charger with the appropriate Tesla -> J1772 adapter.
There's no such thing as "battery damage" from doing this.
Tesla wall chargers have a software setting where they can be set to charge only Tesla vehicles. That is the only "incompatibility". You just have to be aware of that setting and change it so that the charger can charge all vehicle models.
Works great I have used. FYI the “charger” is actually called EVSE (Electric Vehicle Service Equipment). The charger is actually on board the vehicle and handles the conversion of the AC power from your home to direct current for your battery.
It normal for the charge port to show red for a couple seconds before starting to charge with Tesla units but they work fantastically….especially when in a power share config.
I’ve been using a Gen 1 Tesla Wall Connector (not called a charger, per the comment above) with my 2023 R1S for 18 months with the Teslatap Mini adapter with zero issues. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s the best made and most rugged adapter available. I’ve used it on a Tesla mobile connector as well.
Have a Tesla Gen 3 Wall Charger. Have never had so much as a hiccup of any kind charging my Rivian with it. It works flawlessly every time.
Like Tesla Superchargers, my Tesla Wall charger is the epitome of reliability and true error-free. I use the Lectron adapter.
