If @A2ZEV is a reputable company, and they claim to be, they will never sell an extension. Every connection increases the resistance, regardless of the quality of the cable or connector.

If it's an active cable, it's going to require an external power source. Could even be a 9V battery or something. It's still going to have to be enormously thick to allow the full current that a Tesla station can provide. The fun part for me? This means losing the "advantage" that Tesla NACS has over CCS, because the cable will have to be stupidly unwieldy to be functional.

Tesla should have just prioritized changing their compatible stations over to V4, like Rivian has been doing for their 1.5 stations. I'm glad RJ didn't decide to just fire the entire RAN team.
And probably why A2Z still hasn't put it up for sale.

There was a very brief time where Tesla mentioned an extension cord for supercharging on the Non-Tesla Supercharging page. Think it lasted for a week, then disappeared. Hasn't been mentioned since.

If Tesla isn't gonna make one, I wouldn't trust any third party version.
And when asked (or was it when they saw mention of A2Z's?) Tesla engineer got on X and advised strong against idea of extension. Then, A2Z got in the conversation and offered willingness to collaborate. Weeks/months went by, no news, until State of Charge reviewed the prototype and had a chat with head of A2Z and his engineer (a former Tesla employee).

I'm testing the hansshow extension now for a video.

I wouldn't recommend for a Rivian but if you had a higher voltage vehicle then maybe.

It's rated for 250 amps but hit 205kw so like 500 amps. It thermal throttled okay, so no fires but still wouldn't advise.

It was nice to not park like an idiot though

I recently ran into this issue when I traveled from FL to D.C. I had to wait a few times at superchargers since I could only park on one side and the cable reaches. Each time I pulled up to a SC with a trailer option, there was a Tesla with no trailer utilizing it. Meh..

Weird - I've made it work (used the St. Regis, MT charger twice a few weekends ago - at two different stalls!). Maybe the pedestals were not as un-centered as I thought they were.
They repainted the parking lines on some v3 stalls to make it easier for the cord to reach.

In the last 5 weeks I crossed the US twice. I just counted up how many times I charged getting back to the Pacific. 15 times and because I joined the "Tesla club", 12 of the chargers I used were Tesla. I believe I only stopped at 2 Tesla SCs that were V-4. The rest were V-3. I can tell you reach was never an issue, mostly because there were 6 or more chargers and only 2-3 Teslas using them. Ha, I stopped in 2 of them, one going and one returning, where the drivers wanted pictures of my Model T.

I used ST. Regis for a second time the night of the 4th of July. I was the only one there and it was really scary for my granddaughter because the volunteer fire department used an adjacent space to launch all their fireworks. The whole time we were there, they fired fireworks.

Unfortunate that your granddaughter was scared but cool that there were fireworks (and run by professionals)

background, I've never had an EV. I'm getting my first one (R1S) next week so I'm understandably excited and researching and trying to learn as much as I can. I've seen people talking about Tesla Charging stations and how the location of the charging port on the R1S prevents you from parking in the right spot at Tesla Charging station because the cord doesn't reach. This again is not based on any experience Ive had, I'm just imagining myself being in the situation these threads discuss. Are NACS extension cables a thing? can they be used in these situations? or is this really not an issue? thanks.
Like many, I only charge when we are on the road. Here are our experiences.

First, despite having paid for the Tesla app, and being guided to charging stations, some, but not all older stations won’t work with Rivian. On a driving trip in July we could not charge at Tesla stations in Santa Barbara, Solvang (our hotel had a Tesla charger that was free to guests but would not work with our R1S) and in Daly City. At each I tried switching among chargers and was on the phone with Rivian and nothing worked. That said, at other Tesla chargers, perhaps newer because the cords were longer, everything was fine. Tesla cord lengths may necessitate taking more than one space at in some places, but that just comes with the territory and is Tesla’s problem not yours. I have also discovered that if a Tesla charger is situated such that you can access it from behind so to speak, the short chord easily reaches the Rivian port.

Second. Our experience using Tesla on the road is that the chargers will not charge the battery to one hundred percent. If doing that is important other stations may be a better option.

Third. When on the road, it is vital to prep the battery before arriving at the charge station regardless of the provider otherwise no matter how fast the charger is you may find yourself sitting there much longer than you might otherwise have had to.

Just be courteous when using tesla SuperChargers. Be prepared to move if you take 2 spots and all others are full when a Tesla arrives for a charger.

Best practices: park at an angle on an end spot, or four wheel it and use the back side to charge. This way you won't block 2 charging spots with a short charge cord.

I do not think you need to move, the Rivian has as much right to charge at those open spots as anyone.

I’ve pilled up to a Supercharger station a few times now in my Tesla where a vehicle has been there blocking a spot while they were charging, I never once expected them to move their vehicle so I could charge.

I think you missed my point 😉
If all Superchargers are full while our Rivian takes up two spots and a Tesla arrives to charge, EV charging courtesy common sense would be to move and let them charge. Hogging two spaces in this case IMHO isn't fair.

I did not miss it at all, I just completely disagree. That is the exact scenario I have run into here in SoCal and I just wait my turn. I have zero expectation that my need to charge should be greater than theirs.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I have dozens of charges at Tesla Superchargers. Not once has a Tesla driver said anything or given me the side eye. Most, if anything, just want to chat about the truck. That said, in more cases than I expected,I've been able to use a charger that didn't require me to block another charger.
I currently drive a Model 3 and when I see non-Tesla EVs at a V2 I usually let them know it won’t work and recommend a V3 charger nearby. When I’m at the V3 I get excited to see other EVs. I’ve chatted with multiple people that have had IONIQ 5s, F-150 Lightnings, Cadillac something or others (Vistiqs, Lyriqs, or Optiqs), etc. Its fun. I like all EVS.
