@FormerCyberTruckOwner

Welcome! I echo a lot of what was said above about Rivian still being new but generally great.

Do you mind sharing why you didn't test drive an R1T before buying a Cybertruck? I was lucky to test drive a Lightning and R1T back to back years before the Cybertruck was released but would have enjoyed testing all options. (Though the styling and attention of the Tesla option were not for me anyways)

Sooooo...I'm new here hello ?.

As you read Tesla has officially offered to buy back my CyberSuck.

Is it bad that I am concerned that posting here may lead me to getting some sort of negative attention?

Anyway, I pre-ordered the truck 4 years ago based off of the design and promised features. I wanted the truck and I expected it to be perfect.

Tesla has made cars before...
Tesla had delayed the truck multiple times...
Tesla marketed the truck as luxury...

What I got was none of that, with a side of poor customer service.

I wanted the politics to stay out of my purchase, but unfortunately they didn't. The amount of hate and negative attention is out of this world.

So here I am .. I want what the Cybertruck offered me but with a better build by a company who's focus is on their products not politics. No one else can even come close to being a Rival of the CT, other than RIVIAN.

I finally got to test drive one and it was a 2022 R1T Adventure Series. While the drive was admittedly not nearly as smooth, and it lacks the steer by wire, it did give me the power I wanted.

The seats were 1000x better than the Cybertruck.
The internal design was much more superior.
The vented seats actually worked.
The UI was user friendly and very similar to the CT.

I'm certain that a Rivian is in my future, so I'm here to get the inside and have some guidance.
let me start with. I have previously owned 4 Teslas. An X (2019 LR), 3 (2019 SR+), X (2022 Plaid), and a Y (2021 Performance)...

Same boat as you Pre-ordered CT on the 500 mile $69k dream. (canceled last month)

I just picked up my Gen 1 R1T Performance Dual Motor Max Pack from Miami FL, Drove it back to GA 700 miles.... With AT tires I got about 350 miles of range around 80 mph on my first 90% of the pack..... The truck held 200kw from 0% to nearly 50% on every fast charge... its incredible and completely underrated

What's better?
-Ride quality ( than every tesla I have driven)
-Road Noise
-Delivering on proposed range capability
-Customer Service- You can actually call someone... they actually message/call you back... they actually care about your case
-Build Quality - mine looked and felt flawless on pickup

What Needs Work
-Driver+/Autopilot needs to be expanded to every road on all Rivian vehicles... Cmon we can detect the vehicle is a semi but we can just stay in the lines? we need the same level as basic autopilot at a minimum, anything beyond that I'm far more forgiving
-Green light detection chime
-More steaming apps video and audio (as we say int he latest beta already in the works)
-More of the configurable options that tesla main screen has
-Door card structure/flex/interior handles are a bit flexy, give the impression of cheap/weak (only item in the truck that gives me that negative)

Why should anyone care about the current politics of the chairman of the OEM when deciding what to buy and drive? Drive what you like.

If you're driving an electric pickup truck, no matter the OEM, the F250 and super/heavy-duty dually-driving guys on the road will think you're a China-loving commie anyway :CWL: , so who cares if you think driving a Tesla truck somehow associates you with a Trump-donating right winger (it doesn't :movember:)? If you like the CT, drive it. If you like the R1T or the Lightning, drive it.

I enjoy my R1T. Don't care what other people think about it here in Tx. I just wanna go fast and I don't miss going to gas stations. ...and still have my wife's Yukon if I need to take a longer road trip or haul a trailer for a long range and don't want to worry about the existence, wait times, or operability of public charging infrastructure.

Well, the good news is that Tesla can put that Mars Rover where it belongs now: On Mars.

I don't care if someone with politics different from mine sells me something UNLESS I can see them using that money to specifically influence the outcome of an election. Recently I was about to do some 5 figure business with a local company and as I looked down I saw a LARGE check to that campaign. Dude. If you are going to donate that kind of money, don't rub it in my face by leaving it in plain sight.

So, no. Even though I have bought 2 Teslas (still own one) prior to Elon going full batshit crazy, he will never get another dime from me as long as he uses that money to influence elections.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your very smart decision to offload your CyberYuck ™.

Rivian definitely has its warts when it comes to service and lingering build quality issues and you should take that into consideration when you consider your purchase.

I would make sure you are comfortable driving whatever distance the nearest Rivian service center is to you in the event you will need service. This is something that folks haven't appreciated enough when thinking about the purchase decision because it can really add time and stress if you are in a situation where you have a laundry list of issues to resolve.

Like Tesla in the early days, Rivian is going through some growing pains. But, unlike Tesla, we have a thoughtful, sane, and largely apolitical CEO who is focused on Rivian's growth and expanding strategic partnerships for Rivian to ultimately thrive.

If you stick around long enough, you will also find that this is a really great community full of generous people willing to share their experiences and answer questions of new owners like yourself.

I like the seat coolers too. Would like it to be a bit more cold but it's nice. I find the cabin very quiet.
They are not actually "seat coolers" - the seats are ventilated - cabin air is forced through the seats. Cold air from the back seat vents helps to cool the air being forced through the ventilated seats.

I am confident with VW on board that Rivian will step things up on the service side of the operation.
I doubt that VW will have much impact on service. The partnership between Rivian and VW is more about the software, as I understand it. However, the infusion of money might allow Rivian to apply additional funding to service centers and service personnel.

Yes. Though the post specifically said to “that campaign”. Donations to campaigns have different rules than other contributions.
As a momentary tangent, the one overarching requirement of a SuperPAC is independence from the campaign(s) it supports; in fact the FEC calls them "IEOPCs" -- Independent-Expenditure Only political committees. But we all know that's a legal fiction, and the FEC has done a terrible job drawing lines and policing and enforcing the lines, thanks in large part to the 3-3 split in political representation of the commissioners.

Anyway I see nothing wrong with avoiding purchases based on the views or social support of the particular OEM, especially in the US where, for better or worse, the law affords and protects corporate entities First Amendment rights. If companies get to speak and financially support political positions, then its fair play they take the hits associated with taking those positions.

Agreed. The VW investment seems to be a flow from Rivian to VW on the software side. It doesn't read like a 2 way street.

FWIW, the service I had at VW wasn't much better other than the availability.

So my price paid for ownership of the CyberSuck was $8k for 6 months.
They are charging me .85 per mile driven in fees. When the truck was never actually whole.
Trying to decide if I want to spend the time and money to prove a point or just walk away....
