Sooooo...I'm new here hello ?.

As you read Tesla has officially offered to buy back my CyberSuck.

Is it bad that I am concerned that posting here may lead me to getting some sort of negative attention?

Anyway, I pre-ordered the truck 4 years ago based off of the design and promised features. I wanted the truck and I expected it to be perfect.

Tesla has made cars before...
Tesla had delayed the truck multiple times...
Tesla marketed the truck as luxury...

What I got was none of that, with a side of poor customer service.

I wanted the politics to stay out of my purchase, but unfortunately they didn't. The amount of hate and negative attention is out of this world.

So here I am .. I want what the Cybertruck offered me but with a better build by a company who's focus is on their products not politics. No one else can even come close to being a Rival of the CT, other than RIVIAN.

I finally got to test drive one and it was a 2022 R1T Adventure Series. While the drive was admittedly not nearly as smooth, and it lacks the steer by wire, it did give me the power I wanted.

The seats were 1000x better than the Cybertruck.
The internal design was much more superior.
The vented seats actually worked.
The UI was user friendly and very similar to the CT.

I'm certain that a Rivian is in my future, so I'm here to get the inside and have some guidance.
Buy the vehicle you want, donate to the party you want. The reality of the current EV landscape is that if you want widespread EV acceptance and adoption, keeping Elon musk invested in Tesla while wielding influence over the Republican party is the fastest way there.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
You’ve already outline the main differences - minimalism of the Tesla, etc. The design aesthetic is vastly different.

You’ll see with the Gen 2 that Rivian is rapidly closing the gap on mechanical simplicity, and has efficiency dialed up pretty high for a vehicle of this weight.

What will really get you is that Rivian’s service, while still needing improvement, will not treat you like a criminal every time you have a problem with the truck. Those problems are apparently decreasing significantly as their processes improve.

If you want luxury, get a Lexus or possibly some kind of German car that is not VW. Also, why would you care about steer by wire? 4W steer, sure I can see it being important for someone.

The Cybertruck only has four-wheel steer because it needs it based on the length. Even with it, it has the same turning radius as a ~20 year old Tahoe...

Sales say otherwise. Sure it might be a net positive with some never EV customer buying Teslas. lot of people don't care about Elmo and would buy Teslas.

But people want big cars. For me torque vectoring is >> 4ws. 4ws can help with parking and some corner cases, but is not that important. Acura had 4ws and gave it up in favor of torque vectoring.

Service is currently Rivian’s achilles heal & definitely worse than Tesla
I have had zero service issues in my area the 2 times (body alignment/other minor issue) I went.
As mentioned towing....even the CT suffers a great deal when towing
Well the R1T MP suffers less as far as range than the CT.

Have you experienced the steer by wire? It's literally the biggest thing I think that has come to the automotive industry in regard to a system ever car could utilize. It is amazing to Baja and feel essentially no kick back in your steering wheel, no sudden hitting a hole and having the wheel pulled away, no turning the steering wheel all the way around when turning. It seems minute but once you have used it it's hard to go back.

So essentially no feedback? This is a positive?

Rivian service in Oregon has been great over the last year or so. That is where OP is according to his profile.
Agreed. The 1 time I took my truck in for a warranty repair, it was handled quickly. The top trim piece on the tail gate was pulled off when I was unloading something. The replacement is more solid. The other times I've been to Tualitin service place, to get a new set of tires/wheels, have a recall item checked (didn't need adjustment, nothing wrong) and have my key fob programmed all no problems.

I've very happy with my LE R1T. It's definitely the quickest vehicle I've even owned, and it can still do the truck things I need it to do, like haul lumber.

While I haven't driven one, I have seen the lag. Not for me. While I don't know off road, Audi A4 had zero feedback from the steering wheel. The whole car was shaking from warped brakes, but the steering was rock solid. I don't know if that's good though.

Welcome to the forums! Tesla polarizes the world and now the politics of it's major share holder, founder and reason we have a Rivian in the first place. The moment I learned about Rivian and what it planned to bring to market, I thought, I can now get on board with an electric-truck.

50,000 miles later on the R1T and 7,000 on our R1S, my wife and I love our Rivian's and yes, we understood from the beginning we were working with a start-up and had the stomach to process what that really meant. I've had only a couple of challenges on the R1T and the R1S has been flawless. We love our Rivian's and look forward to Gen 3 with a true leap forward hopeful in battery tech, quality and service.

We have zero regrets and if you are a person who can process some limited challenges, I think you will love Rivian. We do. Our tandem below.

I encourage you to test drive as much as you can and pick the Rivian that makes sense for you. Everyone I run across has a positive reaction to the Rivian, doubly so when they learn it is made in the USA. So you won’t have any drama there. As an EV, it’s my first to own but have driven quite a few. This is my favorite. Good luck..

A word of advice about this forum and the Reddit sub... Pay attention to who actually owns a Rivian when you read their posts. There is a lot of advice given by people who have no real experience with the Rivian platform, other than reading the subs.

I've owned two of the trucks and they are fantastic. Perfect? No, no car is. Luxury? Not really, but thats not what I want in a truck. Service? My experience has been great.

You will love the R1T!

Like my R1S a lot. Unfortunately, it has body corrosion on one door at barely 6 months old.
Very surprised to learn of your customer experience with Tesla. I own two of them, and Tesla support and service has been second to none..
Rivian ADAS is light years behind Tesla.
I will tell you this, though, if you think Tesla customer service is poor, well, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Just FYI, if you can get the Gen2 2025 Rivian the ride is pretty much as smooth as the CT. There was a huge improvement in suspension in Gen2.

For the record - I used to have a Gen1 2023 R1S and now I have a Gen2 2025 R1S and I also have a Cybertruck, so I can tell based on actual driving experience :)
