I think you DO get the benefit of the extra horses in the new off-road modes though. Maybe not all at once, but each front wheel has a full 250+hp available to it if needed, and that could actually be useful.
If the tri-motor has 312 horsepower in the front motor and if only one front wheel is touching the ground off road... does that mean through differential braking, the other wheel on the ground gets the entire 312 horse power to one wheel? Would this mean an individual wheel on the tri-motor can get more horsepower than an individual wheel on the quad, potentially? Not sure if I'm looking at this correctly... just curious if anyone knows.

I think "theoretically" that's how it works. But there have been trucks without locking diffs for ages, and brake vectoring has been touted as an alternative for that for just as long. And in no case have I ever seen anyone say "yeah, the brake vectoring is just as good as a locking diff."

But yes, you have it right in that with a motor on each wheel, if only one wheel has traction, the one motor that powers that wheel needs to be able to pull the entire vehicle, whereas a vehicle with torque vectoring should be able to send more than 1/4 total power to a single wheel.

I test drove the Quad today. Firm and tight even on the soft setting. Not near low and sporty like my I-Pace and still I like the truck style presence. Power comes on so smooth it does not seem like as much as it is. Everything controlled digitally with the screen seemed a bit much and will take a bit to get used to. The control graphics seem to work well compared to deep menus.

Quad is a bit much $$$$ but does not seem excessive compared to an optioned out Tri. I am inclined to go with a mid range dual or the Quad.

Mark me down as another person that is sad they eliminated the Forest Edge interior. Nearly every other car on the market has either only black plastic dash or grey plastic dash, having that green and nice brown wood combo has really been a pleasant change I have enjoyed greatly on my truck the last 3 years and received many compliments on from various passengers. The lack of that option in current vehicles will probably keep me in my Gen 1 quad longer than I would have otherwise. The only feature I feel like would be worth upgrading for me is the greater driving autonomy, but I can certainly live without that.

Yea lots of marketing gotchas where they tout features but the make them practically unusable by needing special modes and settings that reset. Worse, you may buy it one way and an update will change it. Just something to be aware of.

I really liked the look of the lighter interior when I configured my Gen 1 Quad, but then there was that long delay in getting that interior, so switched to the dark wood. I wonder if that happened to a lot of people, and if that skewed the statistics on appearance of desireability. To this day, I think the lighter wood is the sharper looking of all the available interiors.
Yes, the delay when I bought my ‘22 R1T was also a factor in the options for color and trim. So I agree that the results are probably not reflective of what people actually want. Having said that, I love my Canyon Red, maybe it’s forthcoming rarity Is going to be an advantage ? 🤓

I mean if budget is not too much of a concern, the quad is still an amazing vehicle and has as much range as the tri depending on how it is configured. Another thing I did note was how great the ride felt all around, not sure if it was the four motors creating a more balanced ride or what not, but that is one thing I found slightly better than the tri. You'll get used to everything on the screen, for the most part...the vents being controlled by a touch screen will always be the head scratcher for me with current automotive design. The app is also fantastic, IMO, compared to a lot of other manufacturers.

Yeah I kind of like the California Dune color, but the Forest Edge with launch Green combo is perfection and I hope to hold on to this truck for as long as possible. The new interiors are nice, but not unique like Forest Edge.
