I have only driven ICE cars for forever, and it's fascinating to have SUCH a quiet car. I could hear everything the car was doing over bumps on some particularly bad roads near Blauvelt NY. I was pleased to see that there is a service center under 30mi from my home

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

I’ve got a service center about 30 minutes away, too. It’s not a demo center though, so I have to drive from Columbus, Ohio to Fishers, Indiana (2 hours and 30 minutes) just to test drive an R2. I’m not taking delivery until next year, so I’m sure I’ll get to eventually. Who knows, maybe by then they’ll have one at the service center in Groveport.

We’re one of the fastest growing metros in the US with over 2.24 million people. If Rivian is serious about growing I think we’re going to need a few more service centers and we’re certainly not alone.

Can’t wait to drive the R2.

I grabbed the latest Reflex coating from Ammo NYC to detail my Half-Moon Grey R2 when it arrives and the gloss is going to be insane. I had no idea the color was already this reactive to the surroundings!

Maybe if enough of us call, Cbus will get a demo for us!

For sure it changes color with surroundings.
I noticed this as well. Our demo was also a HMG. It almost looked metallic olive when we parked under some trees to swap drivers.

Test drove the new R2 Launch Edition this weekend. Coming from a 2026 R1T Quad, I really wanted to love it as a smaller, easier-to-park daily for my wife — but at $60K+, it’s a tough sell.

The driving experience is solid, and some upgrades are genuinely nice (bigger drink holders, MagSafe charger, added glovebox storage). However, the hardware and software fragmentation is a major issue for anyone who owns an R1.

The new ridged steering wheel dials feel imprecise — they slide when you push them and require perfect finger placement, unlike the clean, consistent controls in the R1T. Having to mentally switch between two completely different control schemes depending on which vehicle we’re driving is frustrating.

Other pain points:

  • Charging port doesn’t auto open/close
  • Frunk must be opened manually
  • Universal Driver Assistance only on Launch Edition
  • Tiny driver display screen
  • New main screen gestures and sliding windows that clash with existing R1 software

I was also hoping for much tighter U-turn capability in a “smaller” SUV, but it still needed a 3-point turn on wide roads.

Rivian, please prioritize consistency across the lineup. R1 owners considering an R2 as a second vehicle need the interfaces to feel like the same family — not two different ecosystems. These friction points at this price make it hard to pull the trigger.
