This has me convinced that legacy automakers (outside of Ford and Volvo) don't understand or don't care on how to build an EV.

They certainly didn't splurge on aesthetics.

Would it help the perceived value if they marketed the vinyl seats as vegan leather seats?

Related: Friends of ours with a newer Range Rover PHEV rode in our R1S for the first time this weekend. They loved how quiet it was, the acceleration, the aesthetics, and the frunk storage.

They also said the vinyl/vegan leather seats would keep them from buying a Rivian. I was really surprised.

I’d prefer leather to the vegan leather material, but I don’t see them as radically different because my favorite is actually cloth. So, I’m clearly in the minority when it comes to car upholstery preferences.

I think the typical buyer of today, when comparing two vehicles with different seat materials, will perceive the real leather as more comfortable, higher quality, and/or more luxurious than vegan leather.

I think the legacy manufacturers understand this.

If I wasnt locked in at Pre-Price Gate pricing, I would be --looking-- at the Silverado.

You can dog on the big name brand auto makers all you want (not just the big 3).. At the end of the day, there is something comforting knowing that if I need service, a local dealer is already in place, to service it.

I am not knocking Rivian here, they are building a network, and it will be a good thing.. as long as you live in a well populated area.

If I were to place an order today which one?

I am tactile in nature, and being that I have yet to put a hand on a Silverado EV...

On the other hand, I have touched, riden in, and drove, a Rivian.

So the order remains with a Rivian

You're assuming that your local dealer will be able to service it. That's not a safe assumption as your local dealer probably isn't going to have an EV mechanic to work on it. Go to the Lightning forum and see all the service horror stories posted there, it looks remarkably similar to here with people complaining about their service with the difference being Ford or GM aren't sending mechanics to your house and personally Rivian has done it twice for me now.

Videos like this are why I don't think the cyberclowncar isn't coming out this year. The Silverado comes out next year yet look at all these journalist reviews. Where are the drive reviews of the Cybertruck that's supposed to be delivered to customers in a matter of months?

As a work truck, it's impressive though would only be interesting if one towed a lot.

This! As a work truck, it's incredibly impressive if you want to go EV......450 mile EPA range WTH!

Surely no accident. Try getting a long wheel base vehicle front on into a charging station (unless of course its a straight drive in & back out - which most chargers are not). You need to reverse in. It's one of my pet hates about the R1T having the charge port at the front. Reversing has never been easier with so many cameras and sensors. Citizens of America, don't be afraid to try reverse parking. It's easy.

I'm so glad it's in the front because it's the only hope of charging without removing your trailer

I find that to be legitimately outrageous. What could the justification for that possibly be?

Sometimes it's because backing up is dangerous at the location.

More often it's because you live in a state with only rear license plates and parking enforcement.

I understand your point of view, but there is a large chunk of the population who disagree with you. When I made the sustainability argument his response was that it seemed like a waste to simply discard the hides of the animals raised for food. I think we’ve strayed far enough off-topic that we should start a new thread in a different area if you want to discuss the merits of using and consuming animals versus the merits of not using and consuming animals.

Everyone has their own values to stand by.

As a side note though, that would probably only be a valid point for vegaterians though as 99% of the leather industry is supplied as a by product of the meat industry. If you eat meat but do not buy leather products it is kind of sending a mixed signal.

Unless there are pull-through charging spots, which is really the only reasonable way to do it... unless the charging area is out-of-the-way, and the chargers are not busy.
