Passing KBA

You have 2 minutes to answer 4 out of 5 challenge questions correctly to verify your identity:

• If you fail or time out on your 1st attempt, you are limited to one retake within a 24-hour window.
• If you fail the retake (2nd attempt), you can try a 3rd time after 24 hours have passed from the time of the 1st attempt.
• If the 3rd attempt is failed, you are locked out for 48 hours from the time of the 1st attempt.
• You cannot attempt KBA more than 3 times in 48 hours. Any subsequent attempt outside of the original 48-hour window restarts the process.

If you intend to have Rivian secure your plates, I'd advise you to read the faq's at notarize.com (the vendor Rivian uses) before taking the 2min timed verification quiz.

Hell, I’d fail this test for the vehicles we currently own.

I think the online notary/power of attorney process might be pretty new as my Guide mentioned something about "struggling through it"? I forwarded him a screen snapshot of the sketchy text message that had no identification of who it came from and he said he never would have clicked on that link either without advanced notification of who it was from. He apologized and said an email from Rivian was supposed to go out first telling me to expect a text message about having to notarize a document.
He was forwarding that screen snapshot to corporate to show them what notarize.com is sending to Rivian customers.

I got a reply from notarize.com regarding the questions asking about details from a vehicle I owned 37yrs ago, they said I could reach our to Rivian and they would send me the POA forms to have them notarized locally then I could upload them myself to Rivian.

In the end... it all worked out!

My delivery person Anthony was awesome... he had a filled out printed POA form with him and he is a Notary so I signed the POA in front of him and that was that. Rivian will now proceed to register my vehicle and get plates for it on my behalf.

Wow... perhaps I got lucky here in CA but my 8 steps and picking up the R1 could not have been easier. And I should add I'm not a US citizen so like my tax return, was expecting more 'complications'.

The only slight pain was getting a bankers check (why does the USA still use checks - this ain't the '90's) which meant a 30min round trip to my bank.

All in, super simple. No problems. Hope that provides some level of comfort for those still waiting out.

I didn’t need a certified check to buy my Rivian. I used an ACH transfer through their online service. It was literally the same process as paying a utility bill online. It took under 5 min to pay.

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s so odd that we had such a simple and positive 8-step process. When we picked up our truck in Normal we had (1) Virginia DMV Title/Registration form to sign, and (1) power of attorney each. No notary. We might have been required to sign for the Illinois drive away tags, but I don’t recall.

PoA forms are so common when purchasing a vehicle, the notary seems odd unless it’s a state that requires it and I’m guessing most dealers have a notary on staff.
