Tire Sidewall damage? Should I replace?

Just noticed this yesterday. Rear passenger side. No idea how long it's been like this. I don't remember hitting anything or kissing any corners to cause this, but it was probably something like that.


No issues holding air so far. 5000 Miles on the truck, have a full size spare. Should I swap it with the spare and get the tire replaced?

Is there any factory warranty on the tires that will prorate damage like this?

No warranty to cover that. I would get it inspected at a reputable tire shop.

Any and all shops will 100% say to replace it, because they absolutely won't come close to touching the liability of even hinting it's good to go. Even if it's 99% good to go, that 1% will make them tell you to replace it.

Asking a shop these days, unfortunately, will not get you a fair answer no matter what. We live in a litigious society where the safest answer is always the one that's given.

I've always heard that if you don't see cord, there's no air pressure issues, and no bubbles, it should be fine.


That said, I will at least be swapping it for the spare today. I'll consider leaving it as the spare, or maybe getting it replaced anyways. On a normal car, a blowout is bad. On a 4 ton EV, it's worse lol.

This^ that can't be repaired and exposes the tire structure to the elements. It may be fine for a while but then fail catastrophically once the elements have broken down the structure of the tire.

Yea, already booked an appointment with Discount for tomorrow. They had half a dozen available in town.

I recently had to replace my tires due to the sidewall blistering. Your image clearly shows damage.

My tires had at least another 6K~7K miles life left before hitting the 2/32 indicator.

I replaced the set with new Michelin LTX M/S2.

He's under the 1 year/10k mileage warranty for members, we can just lemon law him.

Agree. Tire shops are in business to do what? sell tires. This is a business opportunity. Foregone conclusion they will say "replace" instead of "totally fine, keep driving".

I would replace the tire and not really drive on it. That kind of damage is not only fixable but taking a hard turn could make it go quickly.
