I am all good with my Range in the Rivian, no complaints. That said on one of my frequent trips to O'Hare I got a great EV day.

Nothing special on the truck but I do have @EV Sportline aero inserts on my wheels.

I never thought I would EVER see this kind of efficiency.

I like how you Photoshoped out the tow cable between your Rivian and the Semi in front of you.. it looks very realistic ?

The unretouched photo... ;)

In all seriousness... were you driving at much lower speeds for the previous 14.5min then took the photo when you were doing 63mph?

That is fantastic efficiency for the R1T!!

How can you drive at 63 on I90-94? It seems like the average speed on that road is 80-90. I would be freaked out at everyone rocketing past me.

I was between 60-70 the whole time. For best efficiency 60 or less is critical in my experience.

As you can see in the picture I had the cruise set to 70 which is the speed limit but I spent my time in the right lanes and if I ended up behind a semi at 68 I just stayed there which you can also see in the picture.

I wasnt hyper miling but I wasnt driving in a hurry either.

But, what was your efficiency on the way back (on the same route and speed)?
Totally. Tailwind becomes headwind and downhill becomes uphill.

I get 4.1 on there everyday … and my lifetime efficiency is 2.1. The 15 minute meter is a smaaaaaall sample size.

Technically that was my efficiency for 15 minutes. Not the full 90.

VERY small but I had never crested 3 for 15 minutes ever in over a year and a half.

Its just a data point not the journey

My lifetime efficiency on 22s after 15,000 miles is 2.6mi/kwh, I sometimes wish I had 21s to see how much better it could be. I've used conserve mode twice for 2 road trips, 95% of miles is in all purpose mode

In Formula 1 they call that a Free Tow.

SPEED KILLS efficiency. My R1T is on the standard 21” wheels without aero inserts, and stock tires. I’m a sporty driver but try to keep it at or below 75 for efficiency. I’m also an engineer and realize that wind resistance increases 36% from 60 to 70 mph. It increases 78% from 60 to 80. There is, btw, a definite 0.4 mi/kWh penalty for driving on the 20” all-terrain tire package.

Two nights ago, my crew and I finished a big job out of town and packed up our stuff to go home. The truck is a 24’ box truck that cannot exceed 70 mph, and it was pulling a 5000 pound trailer. Normally I would have said “see you tomorrow” but I needed to give the driver a ride home. So I set my adaptive cruise on 70 and my following distance at maximum and settled in for a boring 90 mile drive.

My efficiency for the trip was 3.6 and the speed averaged just under 60 for a trip that was about 92% interstate. I was impressed.

Electricity is cheap so I drive like I want to, which often exceeds posted limits (just a little), but on long trips with range anxiety, I’m driving like Grandpa.
