Configuration: 08/2021 R1S Adventure Limestone Ocean Coast 22" Sport Bright
Last Estimate: October–December 2023
Test Drive: 6/15/2023, was immediately offered one after I moved back to CA from WA, rebooked a few times
Shop Access: 6/22/2023, just missed quarter end so options were very limited
Confirmed: 7/5/2023, inventory opened up, I believe Costa Mesa SC was seeing the same inventory as the factory
Picked Up: 8/2/2023
About two years since I ordered. Not long compared to the OG folks. My delivery specialist was Drew (sp?) who also happened to be our First Mile host a few months back. Terrific guy as always. Never felt rushed and the entire time I was inspecting the vehicle, he was giving me the DL about the older problems he's seen that have already been addressed (that were still on my inspection checklist) or we talked about other vehicles such as the Land Cruiser announcement from last night.
Car had 14 miles on it and I put another 14 for the commute home. Haven't had a chance to take it out again but hoping to put some more miles on it tomorrow to suss out any drivability or interior issues.
Regarding exterior issues, for a 149## build, I was hoping for minimal issues and I think in general I got pretty lucky? Though annoyingly there is a panel with a small chip and scrapes along the edges that I'll want corrected before I get PPF applied. I assume the appointment will be somewhat far out since it doesn't impact function or drivability which means I'll be driving around for a while w/o PPF.
Curious to hear from the community which of the items I noted below I should actually follow up on and which I shouldn't bother with? I'm assuming #1 the chipped/scraped panel and possibly #7 if my tailgate sits too far from the body are probably the most important ones? Hopefully this also gives others picking up soon some areas to focus on.
Update: Scheduled service for 10/6 (earliest availability across Costa Mesa and El Segundo).
PPF installer I’m going with is going to work with me on the existing paint chip, getting angsty driving around without and paint protection. Will share vids/outcome of the install!

Issues cataloged during pickup or within the week after:
- Chip, scrapes along the edge of body panel adjacent to charge port. Someone tried to fix this with a paint pen, looks terrible.
- Scrape along glossy black trim on top of driver side rear door.
- Miscellaneous panels that seem out of alignment (charge port door, passenger front where fender meets front panel, rear driver side door looks too high).
- Miscellaneous lower plastic trim out of alignment (where driver door meets front fender), passenger side doesn't seem to have as noticeable of a gap.
- Small dent on passenger rear door near child lock icon.
- A few scrapes along front passenger side bumper plastic trim.
- Top of tailgate sits far away from body, I can see through to the other side?
- Rough, unfinished metal/paintwork on driver-side trunk area beneath tail light, passenger side has minor imperfections
- Just noticed this loose rubber trim seal. I just pulled it off and popped it back in place. Might need more adhesive? Will see how it holds up until my appointment in early October.
- Passenger rear door seems to jut out a little even after slamming it to close.
- Noticed a small dent on driver side rear fender
- Probably part of the manufacturing process but there’s a distinct indentation line down the passenger rear door
Issues caught / manifested weeks later:
- Rear passenger door handle misaligned compared to the others. Front portion dips in, rear sticks out.
- Passenger front window seal/gasket pinched at the corner: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ulling-out-passenger-front-window-seal.19225/
- Mobile app stuck on "Close Windows", have tried reset, sleep, window calibration, app delete and reinstall, no luck.
