I think the knowledge of the rivian capabilities is clear, It cannot be towed four down! There’s no debate about that, RJ has made it very clear.
As for future capabilities that rivian might put into their vehicles of course, we can all drool/speculate/hope. But any real solid information about upcoming new features is going to come from rivian corporate, not the current owners.

If you attempt to 4-down tow your Rivian, currently, you will become a very unhappy owner of a broken Rivian.

What RJ and Sandy are referring to is the ability to tow a Rivian IF AND ONLY IF it is disconnected. Whether Rivian plans to provide an easy disconnect or not is a big question. It's very non trivial to disconnect the drive train ourselves as owners. Some RVers do this with other vehicles by simply putting the transfer case into N, or via an easy slip disconnect drivetrain addOn by Warner (FJ series). These solutions don't work for an EV.
So.... does anybody know the answer?? Is it towable four down, or not?
And if yes, only the new dual motor or all Rivians?
(unfortunately I don't have Mr. Scaringe's direct number) ;)
I guess this is as far as the Rivisan owner's knowledge goes what their vehicle can do?
(no mean intention of course)
So did you guys listen to the segment at 13:25 I pointed to? They 100% talk about towing it (new motored vehicles).

"On the rear drive unit we're able to disconnect"

RJ doesn't confirm that you can do it in order to tow the vehicle at all. The Quad motor is able to disconnect the rear motors but they still don't want you towing it with wheels down. If this is something new for the dual motor, RJ probably isn't allowed to mention it yet because it would potentially be a competitive advantage thing.

When Sandy mentioned towing, RJ seemed to agree. I think you maybe right about the rear only.

Would mean this I guess. (hey, from what I'm reading the Rivian wears front tires (conserve mode only?) so towing like this could be good in that regard ... oddly ironic.)

It sure would seem like the Rivian manuals would confirm all this and/or blog post.

I will reiterate Dark-FX's comment: RJ is talking about disconnecting the rear drive on the dual configuration, but no mention about disconnecting the front as well. Both axels would need to be disconnected for 4-down towing.

But nothing is mentioned or implied that4-down towing will be supported. If I missed where RJ mentioned this, please clarify.

I'd be idly curious to know what your rig is that it can tow that much weight? Have you made any modifications to support that?
I tow it with a 43' tag axle newmar MountainAire Dp with a 400HP Cummins ISL.

I'm towing with a 45' tag axle Prevost with a 600hp Detroit Series 60 that's capable of 1500ft-lbs of torque.
The Bus weighs 59000lbs and the factory default configuration is rated for 10k lbs trailer weight. An option upgrade will increase that to 20k lbs.
