Just installed my Gen-You-Ine DIY $50 plywood tonneau cover! Looks like it's gonna work Xtra Good!!

While waiting on delivery of the topper for Vivian The Rivian, I need to cover the bed to keep out (most of) the weather for an upcoming trip. Didn't want to spend big bucks for a tonneau that I will only need for a month or so, so I constructed this one from 1/2" pressure treated plywood (with some extra 2x4 support).

Git Er Done!!

If it does the job, who cares how it looks!

Should put a nice varnish on it, to really bring out those plywood tones!

That looks better than trailer park

I would also put a couple of coats of polyurethane on it to protect it from water. Plus it would look good. I'd go glossy 'cause I like shiny.

Not sure how well polyurehane will stick to pressure treated plywood! Hopefully I won't need this very long, then I'll use the wood for another project.

I did the same thing in my first R1T. I had the fit at the tailgate just a little too tight, and that put stress on the unlock mechanism. Eventually the tailgate failed to open because of it. So word to the wise, make sure the tailgate closes and has a bit of slack in it. You don't want the tailgate under pressure when it is trying to unlock.
