To start; I am an idiot. I dont need piling on. Also, this is more for the newer owners.

There i was, walking my dog on a picturesque coastal Maine beach. It was a really nice morning. One of those warm 10° feels like -2 days. I admit (see above) I left the house with a low phone battery. After taking a photo to send to my wife who is currently in a much warmer climate; my phone died. What were the chances that when i cleaned my wallet out during my last work trip i put the card back in it? Nope!!! There ensued my having to walk my dog 2 miles home and me having to ride my bike back. With my wife's ill-fitting helmet. (Mine of coure was in the truck.)

So! Positives and Deltas. Nice day, my dog and i got more exercise. Plus i got some reinforced life lessons. Always have a second form of a key with you.

The worst part of that story for me was you being outside in that sort of weather.
The dog refuses to crap in our yard. And therefore needs to be walked twice a day. It is beautiful … And if I wait for a nice day, I’ll lose 6 to 8 months of the year.

Been there done that :D

If R1T, leave a small portable phone charger bank velcroed or otherwise in the back (or even a USB plug) If stolen <$5.

I might have looked for strangers to ask to call/txt wife to remote unlock, but at that temp, I guess it was just you

Well that would suck. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I have never had my phone die while out of the house in the 25 years I've been using cell phones. And these days it's so easy to keep a small battery in a back pack or pocket. And phone batteries tend to last a lot longer.

I leave my second access means in the truck... a key card ready for me when I break the window using my third means of access to get to my second.

Josh, I agree with the first sentence. I'm joking. This could happen to any of us. Love how your dog will not "go" in his yard and needs a picteresque spot to do his business. I love your attitude mate! Im not sure I could have done anything different. I wonder if we could ask someone to call Rivian and they could open the car remotely. Thanks for the PSA.

I too have been enjoying taking my dog on absurdly long walks in these temps, but it is beautiful, this winter has been solid.

Anyway, I guess this speaks to the need for fobs to actually be available for people to buy...

Yeah, definitely expected to have that when I bought the Gen2 - 6 months later...unclear when it will happen. Oh well.

You can use WAAK right now with an Apple Watch. It is in the Apple Watch app store., and get rid of it once the official one comes out.

Josh, fist off, I love Main and almost moved to Portland a few years back (from 15 years in Brooklyn NY) but the weather is harsh (for me) And that's the main reason why we ended up in San Diego.

Similar to you, I took the car to the carwash, my 4 year old daughter strapped on her car seat in the back, car on carwash mode, phone on the charging pad, I pulled to the vacuums and closed the door, and since it was on carwash mode I was locked outside.

I started to scream to my daughter to get off the car seat (which she's done in the past while driving so now is super tight) and after 10 ish minutes of her trying, I attempted to pen all doors, frunk and trunk finally opened, I climbed though the back and was able to finally turn carwash mode off.

I was starting to get freaked out since my daughter was unable to get off her car seat, and I didn't have my phone to call someone to go to my house for the key/card, and of course I was not able to leave the car along with her on it.

Lesson learned.

I'm using Waak for Apple Watch. It allows your watch to be us as PAAK same as your phone. Works great.

Lanyard with key card, never leave home in the Rivian without it hanging around your neck.
