Well, aint that something! I went to the EVGo nearby and it started right up! Double-checked with the EA station around the corner... and there was an error message on the screen. On the stall next to it, however, it started right up again! I'm back in business... which is to say that I was never really out of business since I wasn't doing any road trips. I could see how this could have severely impacted me if I was in the middle of one.

So, something over the last week-ish cleared up the issue. That could have been the sleep cycle, charging on my level 2 at home, the recent update getting installed, or the power of positive thinking. I spoke with Rivian Service and they said that it very could have been the sleep cycle that resolved the issue, although she left open the possibility that the update also could have fixed it. She didn't have the data to be able to diagnose remotely.

My biggest concern (and my reason for starting this thread in the first place) is that this happens to me or someone else while in the middle of a road trip with a family in the vehicle and such. While this was a minor inconvenience to me, it would be different in such a situation. She stated that there are instances where the charger software isn't talking properly to the vehicle and the vehicle gets confused. In those cases, customers will call/chat with Rivian Service and the charger company and they are usually able to resolve the problem between those three parties. I would just recommend in that situation to also consider the sleep cycle process - it's the only thing in this situation that would have been an option (albeit not a fun one) were I in the middle of a roadtrip. Oh, also, positive thinking.

Thanks to all who contributed!
Glad it is working. Rivian really needs to bring back and effective full reset or a separate full charging reset or something. A hard reset used to resolve these kinds of issues but Rivian wasn't getting diagnostic data as a result, it can't be that hard to have a sandbox or something they can save diagnostic data in and still do a proper reset.

Like you said having to walk away from your vehicle for 20-30 min is not going to be ideal in some circumstances. For example in early 2022 I had this same issue, there is a thread on the incident, it was before I even knew how to do a hard reset. I was in Barstow with my dog in >100F temps at a Walmart, there was nowhere I could have gone comfortably (or possibly even safely) for 20-30 min with that level of heat. Luckily at that time a hard reset still did the job after talking to service like 6 times they finally suggested that.

I saw that thread while I was sitting at the first charger trying to figure out the problem. That's when I tried the hard reset, but that didn't work in my case. IMO, that's this forum at its best - crowd-sourced problem solving. Thank you for taking the time in the middle of your situation to start your thread; not only did it provide a potential solution, but it helped put the interruption of my charge of convenience (I didn't really need to charge) into perspective.

As an update, the problem came back and I got a new service appointment assigned at Gaithersburg, MD. That was today (11/15). I dropped off the vehicle this morning and got an R1S rental/loaner through Enterprise. It was all really easy and I liked seeing the Service Center there. I may have uttered the words "Rivian Porn". Anyway, now that I have a loaner R1S, I'm doing all kinds of crazy stuff I would never do in my own R1S... like taking it to a drive-through car wash. Yee-haw!

Got my R1S back today. Took about a day and a half from when I dropped it off. They said, in my case, there was an issue with the locking mechanism and that was replaced. They made it clear that this is not a diagnosis for every R1 that fails to fast charge. Still, one day in the shop to get it fixed exceeds my expectations!

Can anyone outline the proper sleep cycle to reset the chagers? I have been experiencing the same intermittent fast charger issues and a hard reset does not help. The next time it happens I will try a sleep cycle reset.

I know how to put the vehicle to sleep…do you leave it asleep for 20-30 mins for it to reset or can you wake it right back up?

As others have said, there is nothing worse than a charging issue when on a road trip!!!
