I had mine shut off during a bend on the freeway and while my hands were down using hands free. Not a fun thing seeing my car suddenly disengage pretty much without warning and into the car next to me.

Not super fun and wild for a system that enables hands free.

Had the same experience last week on I-70 East in Kansas around Abilene. Disconnected on a slight curve and I had to take control immediately. UHF was unavailable after that. Tried a couple brief off ramps exits and lock from the car with no luck. Hard reset fixed it (didn't try soft or let it sleep). Frustrating. Hopeful it's fixed in the next update.

We would have left the road if I didn't intervene.

Having the same problem since the last update. Even called Rivian and they advised to hard restart the truck

Had two more faults since my last post - Wondering if this is all gen2's? I can only say I have an early 2024 build Gen2 that has both the mobile eye and new Rivian camera setup on the windshield.

posting same issue as original posts, UHF disappeared sometime into the drive and then only returned after a stop & off. There was no warning of not taking over promptly.
Same thing has happened more than 2-3 times already - all within the Bay Area freeways where it has always worked in the past (before .15 release). Hope is up that it looks like a bug and found in many vehicles to easy to reproduce and fix. 2025 Gen2 R1T with A+ paid.

Yes. Cruise Control works, but not hands free. I was just about to post to ask if anyone else had the same issue. I’ll feel better knowing its a software bug and relatively easy fix.
Same here. Worked for several hours then stopped. Once I got the critical warning with bells. What I believe is triggering this (software) crash: each time I lost the UHF, it was right after I took control, using the wheel (not brake or shift stick). I could tell the car didn’t like me doing that (fought me with the wheel for a second), and then directly afterwards, UHF was no longer available.

My experiences were a bit similar. Both were 2+hrs into drive and very random and out of nowhere. Haven’t experienced this issue on my daily drives

Thru the app, I submitted feedback about the issue. I hope others can do the same so this gets some attention.

Good feedback is the UHF was handling roads very smoothly and staying centered in the lane majority of the time. Excited to see how quickly we can get on-ramp to off-ramp UHF.

One of the times that was the most dangerous was on a turn and my hands were not even on the wheel. So when it quickly shuts off immediately during a turn I almost hit the guy next to me. Usually with FSD in the past ( i have hw 3 ) it would flash red and then about a second or two later it drops autosteer.

To your comment I will say, last night when it shut off again with a fault - I was noticing the car veering out the lanes slightly and I applied some co-steer ( I think that's what they call it ) and it just faulted and disabled it for the rest of the drive.

Something is very wrong and the faults are almost happening every drive for me. This is only after the Rivian Assistant update.

I had the same thing happen over the weekend. Drove out 2.5ish hours and back in the same day, different leaving and returning routes. Both times is shut off about 1.5h into the drive (with 95% on-interstate) for no reason and required hard reset.

Looks like it definitely isn't worth $50/mo now.

Sorry you guys are having these issues. I bet the next update brings a lot of A+ improvements.

I’m having the same issue. At some point into a drive (roughly an hour), UHF will disengage, for seemingly no reason, and then be unavailable entirely. Stopping and parking does not restore. Cameras and sensors are clear. I have not tried a hard reset. Right now, the vehicle going to sleep overnight does clear it and it’s available again, but then repeats this deactivation scenario. Has happened in the same manner about 4 times now. Seems like software issue. I also submitted the feedback in the app and referenced this thread. Frustrating on a long drive as it doesn’t allow standard highway assist to work either, just cruise control. If it continues, I’ll be seeking a refund for the monthly subscription until resolved. Not able to get much benefit out of it right now.

I've noticed the opposite, so to speak. Was on unfamiliar roads, with uhf engaged, the system messaged to say "sharp curves ahead, place your hands on the wheel" so I did and it steered through the curves without disengaging and continued on (with my hands back off). It's been smoother overall since the latest update. Not perfect but better.
I have a gen 2 r1t.

Wish I could say the same. I’m starting to nail down where it disengages. Went through some tight curves with construction on I-70 from Vail to Denver, probably a little too fast (even though other traffic was going faster). Midway on a right hand curve it disengaged with warnings, sending me toward the truck on my left. I had enough warning to take the wheel and get back on track, but UHF was gone until I stopped and did a hard reset. My takeaways:

1. Go slower than you need to on tight turns, especially downhill on steep grades. Any time it detects the vehicle not behaving as it should (like a very slight skid from taking a turn too fast), it freaks out, and behavior can be unpredictable.
2. Expect UHF to become unavailable if you take control by using the wheel, rather than brake or shift stalk.
3. It seems to be more forgiving earlier in a drive, but after a while the chances of a software crash (which is what this is) seem to increase. Be more vigilant after a couple of hours on the road, especially if there are many turns.
4. Think about disengaging UHF in advance if you are heading into a tricky section with turns and grades. Once you’re through this, you can turn it back on. By taking back control you have reduced the chances of an emergency “take control now” order, as well as lower level warnings like “ hands on the wheel”. No surprises!
5. Continuous Jersey barriers also seem to spook it, especially on turns. It’s not sure whether they are another vehicle. Expect some phantom braking.

I did try #4 on your list. Driving on an interstate I disengaged with the stalk prior to a left hand turn transition. Unfortunately when I went to reengage later it was not available. Good news is it came back after a short sleep while we ate lunch without a reboot.
