We used a different address than what was under our reservation. The reason was that our house was under remodel
and we were staying with in a house a few miles away. That was a year ago but Rivian had no issues with it.

I believe Rivian is only doing deliveries where they have an SC within a reasonable drive as they were expending a lot of resources delivering to locations that are far-flung from a SC. Beware if you have an issue at home and you need a tow to that far-flung SC...it may cost you (not Rivian)

Additionally, I'd suggest doing some research on your state tax and car import laws -- you may end up being taxed twice (once at delivery, and another time when you import it to NM). For Example, in CA, the laws are pretty clear that you need to move plates to CA within 30 days (it may even be as low as 10 days) of importing it to the state. Additionally, any car with less than 7500 miles is imported as a new car and thus subject to sales tax.

Beyond that the R1 is a great vehicle and a blast.

Home address for taxes/registration, delivery address for receiving R1T, and state of sale were all different for me, worked out great.

We were a November 28, 2018 reservation but were getting no action from Rivian because we live over 300 miles from the nearest Rivian Service Center. After our son, who was also a 11/28/18 reservation, took delivery of his R1S, we decided to take action. We changed our home address to our son's in Jacksonville. Within 30 minutes of doing this, we had a Guide assigned and access to the R1 Shop. We told our Guide that we wanted to take Factory Delivery and she provided us with a list of orphan R1T's at the Factory. We mulled over these choices overnight and were ready to select a truck. The Guide called us early the next morning and told us that our exact R1T configuration had appeared on the Factory Orphan list overnight. We lock in our choice and had a VIN assigned within moments. We completed the purchase process and took delivery of Opal a few days later.

Yes. I live in Montana, and the exact same thing happened to a friend and fellow R1T owner. I was a Jan 2022 reservation holder. Delivery estimate went from Q1 2023 to Q3-Q4 2023 to Q3-Q4 2024 to "Address is Undeliverable" due to my delivery address being too far from a SC.

In April 2023, I updated my address to a relative's house in Utah. In May 2023, I was assigned a guide and my config locked and began the 8 step process. My vehicle was delivered on 6/30, picked up on 7/5. My friend's experience was almost identical, except that he was granted shop access and took delivery of a shop vehicle out of Denver.

The process was overall smooth. You need to emphasize to your guide that you will take delivery somewhere other than your home, and they note that in your file. The primary difference is that your title paperwork is not sent to your state's motor vehicle department, they're sent directly to you and you have to walk in and do the title and plate process yourself.

Regarding financing, if you finance through Rivian, TRIPLE check that they put the right address on things. They did NOT for me, and I almost missed my first payment because I'd not been sent all the preliminary financing statements.

Any issues with servicing yet with your location being in Montana? I'm in North Idaho and seem to be experiencing the same situation with delivery estimates. Hoping for good news by the end of August with the updates on delivery.

I'm in western Washington, Kitsap peninsula, I just travel to Montana frequently. No issues here, and luckily no issues during our travels.

There are/were some Rivian employees living in western Montana, so there shouldn't be much issue. But Boise SC is coming soon!

I'm currently less than an hour from Sandpoint, so we're probably not far apart! I haven't had to pursue service yet beyond a single chat/ticket with Rivian support for a passenger airbag issue (it was turning on and off while my wife sat in the seat; a vehicle reset seems to have solved the issue), so I can't really give first-hand service experience just yet.

I would offer that I asked specifically about service when I picked up my vehicle in SLC. The Rivian tech specifically talked about three things that would apply to you:
  • First, the SLC techs (at least allegedly) love to come to MT and would and still do drive up here if they're asked, and they seem to not mind making the drive. They often try to hit several vehicles with one trip, of course. But they did exactly that with the recent "recall" (in quotes because I'm not sure it reached the official designate of that or not) regarding loose suspension bolts that had a few wheels fall off.
  • Second, they're spinning up a Service Center in Boise that's supposed to come online later this year.
  • Third, it's not clear who would do "on-site" service once Boise is up and running. SLC still kind of hopes it's them, but in your case, Boise might be a better bet.
Pick an address near Boise or SLC, and you may be very surprised. You've heard my dates and timeframes. My friend (also here in the same county) changed his address to his daughter's in Denver, and he had shop access within 10 days, and a vehicle pickup within about 5 weeks.

I'm going to see how the next update at the end of August goes. If I'm still a long way out for delivery, then I may use my daughter's address in Seattle since I'm already on the lease. Thank you very much for the info.

I had a Jan 2022 R1S reservation pre-order and I am located in North Idaho, 300 miles away from the nearest service center in Bellevue Washinton. I scheduled a test drive while in Las Vegas in mid-October. Everything went great, loved the vehicle. Even talked to guide about possibly changing delivery address to my daughters in Seattle due to distance to service location issues everybody seems to talk about in forum. 2 weeks ago, I received a survey from Rivian about how my test drive went, which also included a question on the timeframe when I intended to buy. Immediately was my response after waiting almost 2 years. Next day I received a call from Rivian who ran my configuration which matched an R1S that came off the assembly line the day before. I'm halfway thru my 8 steps and expect delivery in 2-4 weeks. El cap, Quad, large pack, 20" AT dark, Black MTN w/ dark ash wood interior, vin 29xxx. Apparently, No issues with my delivery address being in North Idaho.

Have you had any issues requiring visits to the SC?
