Me thinks this is a thinly vailed CarPlay thread.
Not at all, I don't even have an iPhone and am all for Rivian keeping their software in-house and integrated; it just needs to work esp something basic like calls.

I have never touched the screen for phone UI.

hey siri, call mom. Done.

real question, why would one want to touch the screen to start with unless needed. That is, if I can call a number hands free why would I choose to take eyes off the road to navigate the screens?

I mounted my phone up on the dash, since it’s still necessary to touch it. This weekend I’m 3D printing mounts for my CarPlay unit to be installed permanently.

It's typically laggy for me, especially shortly after boot up; takes ages to pull up contacts and even recents. I simply have to use my phone to make calls (accepting is fine...)
Same with me - I’m thinking that it may have to do with multiple address books in different accounts on my phone (work vs. personal) as well as data within individual contacts. I’m not aware of a way to only have it draw from one contact account.

I don’t mean never touch the screen at all, but if I can voice control a call, what reason is there to tap the screen multiple times to make a call? Why would you want to do this? Why would you take your eyes off the road if not needed?

I don't have this issue w/other manufacturers UI when accessing contacts

I tell Alexa who to call and she does. Also does it right after entering truck as well.

Now I fully support that we should have voicw text through Rivian already.

You have a choice. Rivian will never integrate carplay, but many of us having been using this since last December. Some hate the idea of another screen, but personally I love having voice texting, waze, and other carplay apps. It's the best accessory I've got for my R1S.

I just got one of these last week while they were $100 off. @EV Sportline did a fantastic job on the kit with a very high quality metal mount and everything required for installation included.

The papa, mama, and baby screens look like overkill at first. For people who rely on Android Auto or CarPlay for apps Rivian doesn’t support, the device provides so much functionality that it’s well worth adding an aftermarket solution. I think people who go off roading will find real benefit in having a 3rd screen because you can use Gaia GPS, Google Maps, or OnX on the little screen with satellite maps, routes, stored waypoints, etc. while using the large center display for cameras and drive modes.

Have no issues, regularly start driving and make a call from recents list. Also texting is fine with Hey Siri including having Siri read me a recent text.
Siri has been working great , texting and calling ??
