Vehicle Alarm

I took my Gen 1 R1T in for a few things, one was the alarm (lights flashing and horn) would never go off. Gear guard would take video but even if I had the phone and fob far away and simulated my own break-in, the alarm never sounded.

The technician is saying when you use phone as a key, it doesn’t arm the lights and horn. I have to carry the fob and lock the truck with the fob to activate that functionality.

Anyone, is this true? So that means I have to choose between having a fully functioning alarm vs having the benefit of not lugging a key fob out and having to click it each time?

I have never tested it.

The owner's manual does not indicate the fob must be used, and does mention the phone key.

So does this mean G2s delivered without key fob basically have no functioning alarm system?! Say it ain’t so!

I don't believe that's true. I have a gen 1 R1T, never use the FOB, and I've had the alarm go off on me with my phone standing right next to the truck, the truck didn't unlock but it allowed me to open the gear tunnel, and then the alarm would go off (flashing lights and horn honking)...this was before the latest update, that seems to work much better with the PAAK. Before the latest, this happened to me several times.

It's pretty easy to test...Put a partner in the back seat and walk away and let the vehicle lock and then have them open a door. You'll see flashing lights and a pathetic horn honking. Happened to us at a charger when my wife and I walked away with our phones and left my twins (they're 18 so it's okay) in the car and one of them decided to join us.

Nah, this is bull. Several people, even some on this forum, have noted that the gen 1 with the AC vibration problem will set off the alarm, and using the phone key.

Occupancy disables the alarm.

The test would be to have a window open, phone very far (or off), and reach in and open the door.
