Didn’t see this mentioned here recently, a real 7 seater SUV with 360+ miles of range coming out late 2023, with a ~50k price tag. I’d prefer this to KIA EV9 especially given the EV9 estimated pricing being in the range of R1S. Thoughts?

Thought: As a former VW owner/fan, VW has thoroughly disappointed me for decades (including their implementation and mismanagement of EA) that I will never own a VW. And this opinion has nothing to do with dieselgate.

Unannounced and unlikely vaporware. It looks like the dealerships are all pulling their information from a generic looking Car and Driver article that itself references some old rumors and then a 365 mile range from the Chinese market ID.6 (using the notoriously bad CLTC testing no less). I would not have a lot of faith that a bigger, heavier vehicle will match that of a smaller one, let alone actually reach the rated range from a CLTC estimate…

Carplay should make it's own car to siphon off everyone that can't function without it.
The Apple car might be coming in 2026. That’s hardly necessary, though; 80% of new cars support CarPlay. And you can mount a phone holder to the windshield and get most of it.

Everyone can function without CarPlay, just like everyone can function without a Rivian. And if Rivian nav. didn’t suck and it had better music options, it could go a long way.

And it will have CarPlay!
Why are we still on this? Had a Tesla for years and not once did I think I needed CarPlay. Rivian's UI isn't perfect but it's far better than the legacy automakers. Really don't think CarPlay is needed.

Agreed. I absolutely loved my Golf but man is the ID series awful.

I’m with you, but we appear to be in a minority. I have no interest in the other apps from my phone if the core stuff (nav, inc. redirects and charging - which we get with ABRP …. s00n) works well.

Wassym indicated that they are looking at contractual options to include Apple Music, which would be nice. I personally don’t want the rest of it, though. Comparing a carplay interface in my kid’s eGolf (which is great! don’t get me wrong) to the UI in the Rivian … it’s clear they are different target audiences.

No you're not in the minority. The minority are people who still whine about CarPlay and just like with anything else the minority is often the loudest voice in the room. All the people who are happy with the Rivian's in house systems aren't on here talking about how glad they are not to have CarPlay so it will be biased towards those that want it.

I wonder what platform the Scout will be? That's a real competitor to the r1s.

The issue is maps. Give me Google maps for nav and we won't have a problem. Rivian navigation is far from ideal.
