I went to the showcase event here in Boston, and I was not impressed. The interior was vert nice and sticking to the Volvo aesthetic, but it is a much smaller vehicle than the R1S. The R1S just feels much bigger inside. The back seat was not nearly as comfortable.

The "blinking" headlights are super cool, but having owned german cars with failed LED assemblies I am sure they will be a costly repair just after the car is out of warranty.

The frunk is an absolute joke on this vehicle. Only space for a charging cable.

My wife had the opposite opinion about the 2nd row. I’m 6’ 7” and we need her to fit in the seat behind me. In the R1S her knees were running into the buckles on the back pocket of the front seat. She found that her legs were much more comfortable in the back seat of the ex90 with the seat adjusted for me.

The ex90 only has 1 inch less combined legroom than the R1S. As for 2nd row hip room the R1S has 54.2 inches where as the ex90 has 56.4. The shoulder room in the R1S 2nd row is 58.9 vs 57.8 in the ex90. Overall from a measurements perspective the cars are very similar for passenger room.

Also the second row had air vents in the b pillars unlike the R1S which produces better heating/cooling for the 2nd row than just the low center vents.

The R1S does have more storage, especially in the frunk.

Well one of us was off then. I am 6'3" and adjusted the front seat for me driving and then sat in the back for both vehicles and found the R1S to be more spacious with room to spare. Felt very cramped in the Volvo. I don't put a lot of credit in seat room measurements because the guidelines are a bit open to interpretation. Two vehicles with similar dimensions can create very different experiences. You are correct about the HVAC, probably a better experience.

Ultimately it may just be that someone 5’ 4” (my wife) and someone 6’ 3” fit differently in the 2nd row. Your knees hit different parts of the seats, head height is different, etc. This is why it’s so important for everyone to physically sit in a car before purchasing.

Same experience here. The passenger space seemed at worst the same as an R1S.

My general consensus of the Rivian R1S is that it is a great cargo mover with off-road chops. But, every 3-row ev SUV so far has been a better people mover with more creature comforts.

This was a pleasant surprise. I figured it was going to be right at $79,999 to start. My wife is locked in on the 7 seater Plus, 20" wheels, Mulberry exterior with Cardamom interior. Dealer sent us the order guide yesterday, but no firm date on production (not that I would expect one given it is supposed to start next year).
