I had to close my frunk by hand the other day since the frunk refused to close with the button. Rivian service instructed me to do manually as well.

Not sure why it wouldn't close with the button.

Don't do curbside grocery delivery often, but both times they instinctively close it by hand.

Use a label printer to print a big message that says "Use button to close frunk ⬇" and stick it above where the button is. It may not stop hand closing 100% of the time but should be good enough to remind kids, strangers, myself, and of course the SO.

Don't think Rivian has the market cornered for "flimsy" sheet metal. We had our 2018 Ford C-Max hybrid in for service and the tech left a palm sized dent right where you'd expect a palm to try and close the hood.

I didn't notice it until after leaving the dealership and I'm still fighting with them about paying for the repair.

Agreed that the sheet metal is weak. I've seen it "bounce" on the gear guard when people hit my doors. No permanent dents, so far... On my wishlist for a "real" EV work truck (along with a steel bed). C'mon Canoo, I'm hoping you'll be the one... LOL.

In the meantime, treating my Riv gentle when it comes to things like this. And always close the frunk with the button. Also because I hate fingerprint smudges on the hood. ?
My frunk has plenty of "bounce" these days. In my old age, I view it as a positive.

I have PPF on the entire hood and it didn't help because it's just a sheet of plastic.

Well I hope Rivian can pop the dents out for me. The way I think about the R1T now is it's not so much a truck but an 800hp supercar that can haul mountain bikes or paddleboards and the occasional oversize big box store item with careful attention.

Speaking of mountain bikes, I am a bit worried about throwing them over the tailgate, even with a tailgate pad, so I will probably just stick with a bike hitch rack instead.

Ya, that’s why you see Rivian drag races with Lamborghini Urus because it’s a 800hp supercar that can haul mountain bikes or paddleboards and the occasional oversize big box store item with careful attention.

I refer to mine as Sports Activity Vehicle with the ability to go off-road.

I love the ride in sport low with 20” all terrains.

Wise plan...
I put two eight ft 2x4's out over the top of the tailgate last week and secured them from sliding with lashing straps (the cam lock type), no way could they slide around. Got home from my short 1.5mi low speed/back roads only trip from Home Depot and was very surprised to see the soft pine 2x4's had somehow managed to leave scuff marks on that plastic/rubber tailgate top pad

It kind of seems that if you put anything in the bed, it's either going to scratch or dent the bed or tailgate unless you take extreme measures to prevent any contact between your load and any truck surface.
I already have a bed liner installed, guess I'll have to keep a moving blanket in the gear tunnel for any time I want to hand a piece of lumber (even something as light as a 8ft 2X4) over the tailgate.

Same lightweight material with the Teslas. It freaks me out every time I have to close the frunk and have to set down what I am holding to do it. This is from the Tesla user manual.

yup, concur that the exterior is thin and weak. im afraid to lean on the vehicle in just about any spot for fear of denting it. i get nervous washing the front hood because i can feel it flex.

i get trying to keep the weight down but come on, too thin is just too thin. and how much impactful weight would they add by making it stronger? its already 7000lbs.

Frunc? Front + trunk = frunk!

Sucks about the dents. Agree the body panels are super thin and easily susceptible to denting/dinging easily. I barely bumped the C-pillar with the tip of my wife’s paddle board and it left a dent/crease. After 5 years with my Raptor, using the shit out of it and never taking it easy, that thing was a rock. The Rivian needs to be treated quite gently (especially for a truck ... or is that ‘truc’? ?)
Ha, yeah.

I put a tiny dent in my R1T just from a slight bump from luggage.

First time I've ever done that despite owning numerous vehicles over the years, and being rather clumsy.

Knew I was a member of this forum for some reason! Done. Just need to get bigger label paper at some point.
