Watch as a key?

I have always wanted the ability to use my Apple Watch as a key, but I was getting along with the FOB, which I used a lot. Well, I did it. I lost my darn FOB ? Now I really, really want to be able to use the watch as a key, so I don’t always have to take my phone everywhere. At one point, early on, there was talk of Rivian making the watch a thing. Has anyone heard any more about this possibility?

Bummer about your fob. Lost mine too a while back. Mobile serve brought me one and reprogrammed it.. I think it was $265 when the dust settled

$265, ouch. I heard it was even more than that. If I could use my watch, the problem would be solved. I haven’t lost a watch in ages ?

Yes, the iPad will work as a key, as well. Not sure I want to carry my iPad around with me everywhere, however ? I have a cellular enabled Apple Watch, which would be THE ideal key for this purpose, and would negate having to always have my phone with me.

Yes, but iPads are rather large. I use my iPad to control or check the truck while at home.

I use a ShortCut on my Apple Watch to lock and unlock the doors on the truck before and after a bike ride. Being behind the truck seems to make automatic door locking and unlocking not so reliable. My phone is also in a Waterfield Cycling wallet in a jersey pocket so it’s not easily available.

Apple Watch is a subset of IOS. It requires the app to be specifically developed and compiled for the watch platform. It seems that has not been a priority for Rivian.

Correct. The Apple Watch runs a different operating system (watchOS) from the iPhone (iOS) or the iPad (iPadOS).

This is okay, but, unfortunately, I don’t believe it allows for the auto lock/auto unlock feature that the phone/FOB have. It’s strictly a manual lock/unlock.
