Wavy auto glass after window tint

I had PPF placed on the front facing paint surfaces and XPEL Prime on the windshield and front wi does if the R1S. Minimal tint, but adding heat barrier.
Afterward, I noticed very fine or faint horizontal irregularities in the windshield, which makes the stripes on the road wiggle a little as you drive. I thought this was a problem with the windshield tint coating but the shop swears that the coding is simply enhances irregularities native to the glass. They say they see this sometimes in Teslas as well. Has anyone else found this problem? It’s almost enough to have them removed the windshield coating.
Do y’all think it’s really the glass or do you think it’s a problem with the tent. The shop re-inspected it and they swear it’s the glass.

Can't say whether your issue is the glass or the film but I haven't noticed any such problem with the XPEL Prime XR+ on my windshield.

How long since your install?

I noticed it when I had my windshield tinted. Let the truck bake in the sun for a bit. The film should smooth out. If it doesn't smooth out after a week or two, I'd go back to the installer.

Buddy had this problem with his new TRX. His installer was a little more honest and redid the windshield ceramic film, which solved the problem. I've noticed a few cars with the wavy hologram effect on the windshield, as they pass by in traffic. I'm assume this is what you are seeing.

2 months is plenty for any air/moisture bubbles to dissipate.

Do you have the same tint on any other windows? Do they also suffer from the waviness? There's a decent chance that the tint on other windows came off the same roll. If other windows with the same tint have the waves, then it's most likely an issue with the film. If it's just the windshield then most likely the glass. Always possible film was sourced from multiple rolls so no guarantees, just an idea to explore.

I literally just posted a reply in another thread asking if they saw any distortion after tinting the front windshield with XPEL XR prime. Some say not at all. I have it on mine and it’s quite obvious. Like your installer told you, mine also said it’s the glass that’s the problem. I never noticed it before the tint so it’s hard for me to be convinced that it’s the glass. My neighbor has his done as well (Jeep grand Cherokee) and has the distortion too. All signs point to the tint. I’ll give it a couple of days for it to smooth out. After that I’ll go back to the installer.

Yes, had this with my model 3 prior to the R1T. It never went away and soured me on tinting the windshield all together, would never do it again.
