That's because Driver+ is not much more than fancy cruise control. For gen 1, Comma AI is the answer, if you want more without going to gen 2. Otherwise, Rivian is pretty much finished with Driver+ development when they pivoted to gen 2.

I do worry about the lack of updates support for the Gen 1 though.

Gen 1 has gotten at least one new feature in nearly every update since I bought mine in Feb. 2024.

Unless you are talking about updates for Driver+ for Gen 1, then I'd agree with you, kinda. They did add a component for Driver+ that downloads it's own updates whenever they push one. There's just not a notification for it that I'm aware of.

Granted, I'm one of those people that wants nothing more than the fancy cruise control that Driver+ is, mostly for freeway driving. Other than that, I want to drive my truck.

There's a caveat though. Rivian/Nationwide's New Car Replacement Plus is for cars 3 years old or less. I switched my insurance recently because I'm coming up on that 3 year mark and it just doesn't make sense to continue to stay with Nationwide and pay twice as much. When I called to cancel, they didn't even fight me. They know they are high and uncompetitive.

Weird... I switched TO Nationwide after my previous carrier (Geico) wanted to absolutely gouge me on the Rivian. Have you found more affordable coverage with any particular carrier?

I went straight to State Farm because I have existing policies that are decades old. Plus, the current insurance climate/landscape in CA is that hardly anyone is writing policies for just one thing. Mullti-line, higher combined premiums is preferred and less risky for them.

That makes sense, I am going to have to bite the bullet and deal with the hassle of combining everything with one carrier if I want to reduce any further. Paying RVs, Home, Motorcycle and vehicles all separately at the moment

Other than the heat pump/HVAC noise, I much prefer my Gen 2 tri over my Gen 1 quad. Lowkey best upgrade? The horn!

Pretty much a guarantee you will save by consolidating. I don't know of any insurances companies who don't offer multi-line discounts.

How many campaign contributions does it take to convince lawmakers to sponsor your industry-authored bill, promote it with your PR-Department-written, focus-group-tested talking points, and vote it into law?

I'm no lawyer, but I am surprised, or maybe not so much since it's Tesla, that a company would apparently open itself up to even more liability for such a sketchy, potentially lethal product. It's bad enough to have "autopilot" as one feature among many, but then to now charge specifically for it effectively removes any sort of plausible deniability shielding from lawsuits.

BTW, from the press release, I wonder if they have simply, finally renamed "Autopilot" to "Traffic-Aware Cruise Control" without changing any of the functionality. True, "Traffic-aware cruise control" does not have the marketing ring of "autopilot, " but it is probably a more honest and accurate, and more easily defendable moniker in lawsuits.

Even the term "cruise control" was originally unclear, resulting in the infamous Grazinski v. Winnebago case. In a more precise and duller world without marketing departments and lead instead by engineers(the horror!), the term would probably have been something like "accelerator-free speed set"

You'll still get motor whine, just not as much. I find it more pleasant when cruising, and still can hear motor whine when it gets spicy.

This looks very similar to our damage after my wife mistook the gas for brake and plowed into a Tesla sedan parked in a lot. The cost was around $8000 and also had hood damage. The job took 4 weeks since Rivian kept sending parts for gen2 for my original gen1 so had to be reordered.
