Like many, my R1T has no spare. It appears that many have gone the route of getting a spare via the secondary market (people changing wheels and offering their old wheels individually). I'm headed down that same path and wondered what people are doing to create their own tire change kit. What jack, puck, tire iron, storage, etc. are you using and where in the truck are you keeping it?

I do not really care for their tire change kit they provide, just want the spare for my R1S.

I’ll build my own kit, have the breaker bar, socket, and pucks already as I use them for tire rotations. I’ll probably cut a piece of 3/4 plywood in a circle that fits inside the rim, I can use it as a base when needed, attach a bottle Jack to it and call it a day.

The Rivian GearShop has the full size spare (with orders starting this summer):

https://rivian.com/gear-shop/p/full-size-spare-tire

It looks like it comes with the tools as well because it says it includes " Full-size spare and tire service kit". So, if you can wait a few more months (and Rivian's summer estimate is correct) then you can get it directly from them.

I have the OEM spare kit and I am not impressed with it. I replaced it with a Big Red 10 Ton Hydraulic Bottle Jack from Amazon and the Gen 2 MagJAXX Jack Pucks.

Rivian's timing for delivery is suspect at best so I'm not waiting on the spare availability. I'm also not surprised to hear the that kit that comes with it is not particularly robust. To be clear, I am not looking for a kit that is top-of-the-line with, for example, a torque wrench. I have a torque wrench at home, I'm not buying another one to carry in my truck on the oft chance that I need to change a tire out on the road. But I'm hesitant to go offroad without a full sized spare.

So how do you pack it and where do you carry it? Do you keep the jack upright and/or are you concerned about a leak with the bottle jack if it is laying down

What Big Red 10 Ton Hydraulic Bottle Jack did you order? I see there are few 10 ton options there, not sure what to choose :)

My DIY kit consists of:
Drilled a hole in the 2x6 for the threaded rod to pass through and placed the scissor jack and lug wrench under the 2x6 so it could all be tightened down and secured with the locking nut.

I just throw it on top of the spare tire wrapped up in some shop rags to keep it in place. No concerns about leaking - it's been fine so far and surely been lying on its side or upside down since it was made in China and lived in the local Amazon warehouse :)

It can also be stored under the rear seat which is actually where I keep my Jack Puck bag.

Some great responses in this thread already and I appreciate those that have purchased our Magnetic Jack Pucks for their kits. We designed our GEN2 magnetic jack pucks to work with the Torin Big Red 10T Hydraulic Bottle Jack. I've had no leakage issues with it laying down for six months, but put a rag underneath it, just in case.

Why the Big Red 10T? Torin 10T Big Red Hydraulic Bottle Jack LINK Four reasons for this:

1. It has the proper lift that no 6T or 8T unit has.
2. It is easy enough to pump the 10T unit to lift the R1 vehicles that a youth could do it.
3. It is affordable, robust and available via Amazon.
4. Fits readily under the rear seat in the R1T and of course in the Frunk for the R1S

I also use the Camco RV jack kit for un-even terrain or if I need some additional lift. These will deform a bit under the bottle jack, but I've used them quite a few times.

RV Jack Blocks LINK

Our magnetic jack pucks work with: Floor Jacks (I recommend the 24 1/2" lift Daytona 3T from HF), commercial vehicles lifts (doesn't slip because of our Grip Tech sticky rubber caps), and the aforementioned Bottle Jacks.

I ship as fast as Amazon, and it helps us a bit more if you order direct. Buy Today, Ship Today (by 2pm AZ time).

Thanks for the input. Since I have dogs, my back seat has a dog cover, which means I never use the under seat storage so I forgot completely about that. For me, it's the perfect place to store this stuff. Right now leaning towards the bottle jack and puck @Mark_AZR1T suggested with the hold down approach by @foxerson
