Thanks for the real-world use case feedback... My reply contained a bit of truth, and some sarcasm. If you ask my wife and kids, my sarcasm doesn't always come across that well, especially on a forum. But, I know there will be growing pains with any new EV charger built out, RAN's included. I've had my fare share of supercharger issues over the years too, not to mention slow charging rates and broken stalls, which have improved since 2016, but still not great in many places on road trips within a couple hundred miles from home.

Regardless, even with the inevitable hiccups and growing pains, EV charging for all is much much better than it was in 2018, and will continue to improve at a rapid pace...
For sure. I got your sarcasm. Just wanted to make sure you weren't under the impression that 50% of the EA stations you run into or something aren't going to work. No criticism towards your post, just pushing back against the one you were replying to.

Maybe this is being said indirectly - I think the RAN is meant to extend charging into more "Adventurous" areas. I dont see them trying to build out another Super Charger Network.

They most certainly are...The DC fast chargers will be specifically for Rivian owners and are located along major highways, and the other Waypoint chargers (level 2) will be placed in shopping areas and near national and state parks and available to all EVs that accept CCS standard.

Pretty sure all the rivian chargers will be open to anyone with a credit card and a vehicle that charges via CCS. Difference being with a rivian you pull up and plug in, nothing more required.

Why throw away that income stream?

It's possible. But their website currently says "The Rivian Adventure Network is reserved for Rivian owners" which I think implies it's exclusive.

From their website;

Built for you
3,500+ DC fast chargers at 600+ sites through 2023
The Rivian Adventure Network is reserved for Rivian owners, making it easy to pull up and plug in without touching a button.

Seriously, my BoltEV is pretty quick also with a low center of gravity, and it is almost as fast as a Tesla.
No disrespect to your Bolt, but seriously, it is not anywhere close to as quick as Rivian or (most) Teslas. There is a huge difference between 6 seconds and 3 seconds.

I am sure it will be possible to drive a Rivian without chewing trough tires constantly, but most people should be prepared to replace their tires far more frequently than 50K miles.

coulda swore it was for anybody who wanted to pull up and pay.

You're thinking of the Level 2 chargers that are part of the network and are intended to be placed at the "adventure" spots (parks for example).

Yes. Mixed them up.

Switched back to the 21s today once I saw you can take the aero insert out and they look pretty good.

I think there will be more tire options in 2 or 3 years when I wear this set of 21s out. We'll see!

They will eventually be opened up to all at some point IMHO. I'm sure Rivian owners will be as thrilled about it as Tesla owners are about them opening up their network. Personally, I wish they would all work together for the greater good

You definitely got me there! But, for my usage, the BoltEV is still extremely fast 0-30 mph, close to the Tesla, but the Tesla wins hands down 30-60 mph. Have never encountered an ICE vehicle I couldn't beat if was stopped at a light and had to get ahead of the vehicle next to me to get into the right lane. Wouldn't happen against a Tesla, understand, but the
BoltEV is still quick, not like a Prius or other hybrid that is primarily ICE with battery assist.

Any of the new EV drivers on this forum are going to be amazed at the instantaneous acceleration of just about any BEV, much more so with a Tesla, or our much anticipated R1T with its exhilarator pedal! Duck, sounds like you guys coined it right. Anyway, right around the corner for a lot of us, hopefully s...n.

Get's us old BEV drivers too. Just the other day some truckie (sans trailer) tried to pass me on an upgrade and as I didn't want to get stuck behind him (didn't know he wasn't towing) stomped the pedal (not all the way). When I was well past him I looked down to find that I was going over 100 mph. The fastest, I believe, I have ever driven a land vehicle. Was it exhilarating? You betcha!
