I submitted two cars for review yesterday and both were extremely low. I pinged GiveMeTheVIN to see what a broker would offer and it was $4K more. Wholesale prices have dropped significantly but even then Rivian is on the low side.

So I accepted a trade in for my 2020 Telluride. They offered 44K, which was the high bid I received. I will be scheduling delivery/trade in in the next few days. Did you guys detail or wash your trade in's? Has anyone been denied their trade in for any reason?
Absolutely no need to wash or detail. I wouldn't do anything other than remove your personal belonging out of it. You submit pictures of your trade during the 8-steps, and then they spend about 13 seconds with your trade at turn-in (primarily to check mileage).

I traded in my 2018 Jeep Rubicon to Rivian. The Rivian offer was the 2nd highest among CarMax, Vroom, Give Me the VIN, a dealer offer and KBB. Nevada subtracts the trade in value from a new vehicle cost before calculating sales tax (8.375%. In my case this resulted in a bottom line that was $3,000 more than the top offer for my Jeep.

hi everyone- wondering if anyone has had experience trading in a car through rivian at the time of purchase/delivery? has it gone smoothly? fair trade in value?
I was skeptical at first, but was offered more than all other options and everything was super smooth. I would have taken less to just have them take care of everything - but it was a bonus to get even more!

I was kinda hoping they would handle this in a way that encourages those of us with Rivians to keep buying new Rivians. Meaning good values on trade ins. If they are fair, it could encourage me to replace more often.
Update - super smooth process. No issues. Just a quick look over and exchanged one set of Rivian keys for the other.

The one open question is what’s going to happen to my R1T’s manual tonneau which I never received but paid for. They weren’t sure on a refund or what so have to follow up on that…

thanks for all the helpful and encouraging replies! sounds like it’s been pretty smooth overall. i should know this probably but when you trade in a car like this do you pay sales tax on the original cost of the rivian or do you only pay the sales tax on the difference after the trade is factored in? thanks again guys

My trade in experience was awesome.

About 9 months ago I traded in a non-tok'ing 2018 Tesla Model 3P for a tok'ing 2022 Rivian R1T.

I got something like $51K or so (I don't recall the exact amount) and compared to other offers it seemed low, but within the range of the sales tax exemption difference.

So all in all smooth experience, and fairish value.

I looked around several dealers and others prior to picking Rivian. Rivian had best deal and the process went super smooth. Would use it again.

Yes! Thank you! It all came together within 3 weeks after they sent me the "PPF has been removed from your order" email on 6/7. Picked up last Wednesday then was out of town over the weekend so we are still in our honeymoon phase:involve:
Ask for you - did removing PPF from you order impact your configuration delivery window? I have PPF but I am thinking of removing and having R1S PPF done post-delivery. Thanks!

Rivian offered me $15k less than my dealer did for my Porsche Taycan. I obviously didn’t accept their offer.

Rivian actually made the decision for me. It sounds like they had some kind of back up with the factory PPF and ultimately out of the blue sent me the following email:

Due to increased demand, we’re currently experiencing longer wait times for Rivian vehicles planned for production with Front Paint Protection. To expedite delivery of your R1T, we have removed the Front Paint Protection and associated cost of $1,500 from your order. By removing this option, in most cases, your vehicle is expected to ship from the factory within the next 5 – 7 business days.

If you would still like to have the Rivian Front Paint Protection kit applied to your vehicle, a participating XPEL dealership in your area will apply it post-delivery for $1,500 USD. If you would like Rivian to share your contact information with XPEL to facilitate post-delivery Front PPF appointment scheduling, please contact your Guide.

As a thank you for your flexibility, we will be sending you a Rivian Field Kit and a Rivian License Frame at no additional charge.

For questions about XPEL dealer services and participation, please contact XPEL.

If you have any questions, or if you're flexible on your configuration and would like to review a limited selection of R1T that already have Front Paint Protection applied, please contact your Guide.
When I got that email I was about a week past the end of my April-May 2023 window. So if you have it in your order and would like to get your S sooner I would talk to your guide ASAP.

Traded in a 2008 Volvo XC90 with ~65K miles on it. The rear differential was going out, which made it a bit noisy when driving. Trade in value was offered at $3300, which I thought was a bit low, but not bad considering the rear diff issue.

To answer your question directly, the actual process was SUPER smooth. They came out, did a cursory look-over for maybe 5 minutes, and drove it to the street to park it at the SC for pickup. Extremely easy and they took the amount straight off of my total owed to pickup my R1S.

Traded my 2009 Hummer H2. Rivian offered $4,420 more than the next best offer (compared to former Hummer dealer, carmax, carvana, one other I don't remember). It was extremely easy. They spent about 3-4 minutes to verify odometer and remove my license plate for me. No questions. Did not even start the engine.

I asked what they do with the vehicles they take in trade. He said they all go to the auction.

As far as the sales tax calculation they took the total vehicle purchase price, added $1,800 destination fee, added $225 documentation/dealer prep. fee, subtracted value of my trade-in which gave them the "taxable" amount. Sales tax was calculated on that "taxable" amount.

Beginning with a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang my wife and I have owned 18 different vehicles over the years. My R1S is the best of all. I just love it. It's beautiful (to me), and drives better than anything else I have ever owned. So far, unlike others in the forum, I have found absolutely nothing wrong with it ... nothing! One of my sons has driven it. His comment, "Wow"!
