What will you do given the Max Pack delay?

I’m ready for the truck but need the max pack for towing our Airstream out West. I’d gladly take the “downgrade” to the dual-motor if it meant 2023 delivery. Looking forward to the update before end of year and hope we finally have some clarity and options.

I’ve bounced between Large and Max since placing my order in Sep 21. I decided to go for large to try to get a truck this year (currently have vin). I like the idea of a max pack for doing trips 125-150 miles from my house, and home later that day, without needing to stop and charge for 30-60 minutes. But I am also not necessarily convinced an additional 100 miles in optimal conditions for $10k will solve all of my cases, and I will probably end up keeping an ICE for those situations anyway. And if an additional 100 miles does solve those problems, I’ll just consider trading in my Large at some point.

I wake up every day thankful that I switched from a max to a large pack in June, and now have close to 6k miles and almost 3 months with the greatest vehicle I have ever owned.

You are overestimating how long you will need to charge if you have at least a 150 kW charger anywhere on your route. I do a trip 190 miles each way at least a couple of times a month.(not same day) While I don't have to stop, there is an EA charger on the way, and until yesterday it was complimentary charging, so I said I would stop as long as it was free anyway. I just charge at home or at camp with enough to get me to the charger with around 15-30% SOC, and consistently add 90 to 100 miles in 20 minutes or less, about the exact time it takes me to order and eat Taco Bell and go to the bathroom. In moderate temps, I'm easily getting 2.3-2.5 mi/kWh on that trip too, largely in Conserve on the longer stretches without any stops. I have 20" ATs. Bottom line, you can easily do a 125-150 mile out and back trip with probably a 10-15 minute stop for a charge or a single full charge without a stop in moderate temps. You made the right choice. Charging is only going to get better too.

I may put in in order for a 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 this week. Will probably take 3 months or so to get it. If I held out for Max Pack/Quad motor, I would get that let's say 2 years from now. At that point I'd sell the ZR2, probably lose $10k - $15k on the sale but would have had a pretty cool truck for 20 months, then end up with the truck I want (rivian quad/max) for a stellar price. I think that's what I'm going to do. A max pack dual motor seems like a pretty solid option too, if I had REAL CLARITY on when I can expect that, I might just wait with my current vehicle if it was a year or less. But obviously would only do that at the launch pricing and ideally able to get the EV credit.
