What will you do given the Max Pack delay?

Given the recent change to projected delivery dates of the Max Pack variant, what will you do going?

As the title asks, given the change in production dates, what are you, as a max pack order holder, going to do

there’s no “cancel preorder because Rivian didn’t mention an update is coming soon RE: max pack” option in the poll.…

If I’d known there was an update coming, I would not have cancelled my preorder right away.

But I didn’t know about the forthcoming update, until I saw the third party Rivian stories interview with Tony C… after the fact.

Then again the juice isn’t worth the squeeze if someone keeps moving the glass.

I’ve bounced between Large and Max since placing my order in Sep 21. I decided to go for large to try to get a truck this year (currently have vin). I like the idea of a max pack for doing trips 125-150 miles from my house, and home later that day, without needing to stop and charge for 30-60 minutes. But I am also not necessarily convinced an additional 100 miles in optimal conditions for $10k will solve all of my cases, and I will probably end up keeping an ICE for those situations anyway. And if an additional 100 miles does solve those problems, I’ll just consider trading in my Large at some point.

Better re-reserve and hope Rivian lets you keep your price protection.

I don't know why anyone would cancel, unless they really needed the $1000.

I was a max pack pre-order holder until about August. I decided that in my most common use of the truck 300 miles or 100 miles towing is enough. I tow often but it is 95% of the time less than 100 miles one way. I picked up my truck last week and so far don’t regret compromising on the large pack.

I doubt Rivian would allow a new reservation at the old price.

their cancellation process is “you’re a valuable member of our community! You can give us another $1500 any time! Refund cheque’s in the mail byeeeeeee”

If I really needed the $1500, I wouldn’t have put a deposit on what is a $150,000 truck by the time it’s in my garage. ?

Cancelled because based on the information I had, the timeline was indefinite, as far as deliveries to here in the middle goes.

Yes, because Rivian‘s email read to me that they won’t be delivering here as long as there isn’t a service centre.

The nearest one in country will be 13hrs drive west.

if they’d said “there’s big news coming about max pack in a few weeks”, I’d have waited to see what that was - I.e. if it’s going to be whizbang new motors and battery, that’s an improvement over what I’d originally ordered and maybe worth the wait.…by which time they could have a plan for servicing vehicles here.

but that wasn’t the email I got.

Bummer you canceled, you have been an active member here for awhile.

Kind of surprised you did not just leave the deposit there for awhile longer just to see how things shook out.

Good luck with whatever direction you go, both the Lightening and the Denali with their 400 mile range options seem like they would be good fits for you. Especially if you have dealers up there that are reasonable about the ADMs.

Everyone's situation is different. Here's mine: we tow a trailer. We already have a 300-mile EV that we're towing it with, but with the 50% range hit from towing, we'd really like a 400-mile tow vehicle. The Rivians are nice, but there's really no reason for us to buy one until the Max Pack is available.

So I am waiting. A dual-motor max-pack would be a perfectly acceptable vehicle...but there's no way for me to configure that with my pre-price-hike reservation. I hope they offer that option and some small incentive to do so. If they don't let us choose dual-motor from the old reservation, I would have to toss my current reservation - which would make me lose the non-refundable portion, lose any chance of the $7500 tax credit, AND go to the back of the line to get dual-motor. That would not give me many warm fuzzies about the company. Here's hoping they let us know of a better option soon.

I also have reservations for three other EV trucks, so we'll see who offers 400 miles or more first, I guess. Fortunately for me, I am not in a huge hurry.

Honestly, I originally reserved for a Max Pack R1S. But since that is no longer a thing, and got the dreaded "processing" email due to me not being near a service center pushing it back to 2025+, I may as well just cancel.

These Rivians have a ton problems anyway, and probably best I get my grand back before they file for bankruptcy in 2023.

It always makes me smile when people say that. Tesla didn’t turn a full year profit for the first 17 years. Tesla lost over $2 billion in 2017. To expect a company to be profitable in the first year it is producing a product is laughable.

Good luck with your 400 mile EV.
