In July 2020, our 2007 Dodge Mega Cab was totalled when an old guy ran a stop sign and I've been looking for its replacement since then. I think the R1T will be a great choice. In red canyon, of course. That gear tunnel with the shuttle is an outstanding location for my first responder kits and PPE. But I agree with bac4uw. If my truck's connectivity, or features (I don't know if Tank Turn will be treated as an added feature), is dependent on me paying a subscription fee on top of the estimated $126,000.00CDN before all those wonderful Canadian "Luxury Taxes" are added in, then I'll cancel and put the funds elsewhere.
Remember, Rivian is not far removed from Tesla and other tech companies. They will be mining your data every second you’re near YOUR truck, the one that you are paying top dollar to get ownership of. And then you'll be paying them more to keep doing it in perpetuity.
So far, the details of Rivian's membership perks are annoyingly vague, while their Terms and Conditions page appears comprehensive to say the least.

Only reason I would drop my pre-order is if I can take delivery of F150 Lightning or Cybertruck (hahaha) first.

Lol I would volunteer to have Justin Tucker kick me right in the balls before I would pay $55k for a Kia Sorento.
Let the Vikings kicker take a shot. He would probably miss! ?

I was at a local Kia dealership to get another key fob for our Soul EV. There were three new cars on the lot... took a pic of the plug-in Sorento's sticker - nuts!

Yep…I laugh at those considering a Lightning/Bronco right now thinking just bc they pre-ordered from a traditional Dealership they will pay MSRP…Surpise at Delivery. “Market Adjustment” all over the place right now when you go to pick up. It will be sold a few hours later at that price otherwise. Nutty market right now.

I'm not going to buy another ICE vehicle, and there are no competing vehicles on the market that would cause me to jump ship on my preorder. Even if they were available now, none of the upcoming electric trucks (Ford, Hummer, CT) would cause me to jump ship....

When I considered this question and the response choices, the choices related to price / tax credit definitely rang home... but, at ~ $80k, a few thousands dollars more isn't the deal breaker. My concern is how much am I going to pay for the vehicle *after* I drop the $80k on it?

When I heard the idea of a subscription service, I got a little uncomfortable. I do not want any self-driving features, pretty much ever. My concern is, will I miss out on other features by not paying for the subscription service? Thus, suckering me into paying more for the vehicle over time than I really want to...
I agree.

Handwritten stickers, was always a classy touch. I hated the salesmen when I was a mechanic. the owners and sales people were always trying to bend someone over. Glad I got out of there.

I was working at Hyundai ( the recalls were OUT OF THIS WORLD) for a very brief stint, I cried laughing when those genesis came out and people were shelling out 80k for a Hyundai, same Korean company that built the buy one get one Kia Rio. No thanks, I’ll walk… ?

We bought a Tuscon with the dual clutch transmission for my wife several years ago and it almost got her killed several times when one of the clutches would fail to disengage while accelerating at low speeds. There was a recall and it was "fixed" but not really. We told the dealer that it was still an issue and the maintenance guy just sort of shrugged and said there wasn't anything he could do.

Needless to say we've been very happy with the Mazda we traded it for and I will never buy a Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicle again.

Sorry to hear that. Mazda does have some better quality products. But for Kia and Hyundai (so not a honda)(Sonata) Yes some of those recalls were really scary stuff too. I was mostly fixing stupid things like brake pedal switches, fir 2/10 of an hour, you can imagine how many of those in a day would get old real fast. Sad part was these switches did some crazy things when not properly adjusted or just plain stop working, like apply the brakes at random times when it might not be needed like acceleration to get on the highway. I think I replaced just about every Navigation unit they made, I laughed that if we got into a war with N Korea they could never get a missle off the ground if their navigation systems were anything like their navigation quality issues. Needless to say my attitude was not appreciated there lol. I was happy to move on to greener pastures.

I don't know what irks me more:
  1. Market adjustments OR
  2. 2 price stickers (first price is the MSRP, 2nd price is MSRP plus dealer costs (cost of carrying inventory, keeping the lights on etc)). Essentially the dealer trying to point out they have a cost of doing business and implying that they can't make ends meet via their margin on MSRP over invoice and incentives.

  1. Reports of reliability/ quality concerns from people who take shipments before me
  2. Another EV SUV that can handle some light off-road action hitting the market that is cheaper, has better infotainment, and/or has physical buttons for climate control.
  3. Poor navigation / music / text integration. Not enough reviews in this area yet to know if I can deal with their solution or if the lack of CarPlay will drive me up the wall.
  4. Expensive monthly fees needed for basic vehicle functionality (meaning nav/streaming music)
