I have option F or are we up to G now. I have the 22" dark wheels and have dedicated snow tires (Michelin X-Ice) ~$257/tire from Discount Tire that I picked up last December. I do pay $80 to dismount and remount my factory all seasons each time, but over 5 years (2x mounting and dismounting), that is still less than $1k, cheaper than another set of wheels. I have the 21s on my truck now. Great all around setup. Over the winter I ran a set of 275/60r20 Scorpion ATs on Dodge wheels. These are smaller diameter than the stock Rivian 20s but the end up being the same diameter as the 21s so no reprogramming. They were amazing in the snow but a bit dodgy on ice. Range loss is real though. Considering trying a proper winter tire in the future.

I plan to keep the two sets of wheels and swap as necessary. I just did the swaps myself but having it done somewhere is pretty reasonable I think.

I would go with C as it gives best summer range and its not a cost upgrade. For winter get a set your choice of tires/wheels on 20's for the best tire life & performance in both seasons. This is if you have the space to store tires/jack.
I reconfigured my R1T for this reason.

I'm doing OE 22s March-Oct and OE 20s in the "winter" months.

My driveway and access road are both packed gravel and have some very steep grades. When the PNW snow comes, the 22s do not do too well. My RAM (with 22 sport tires) could barely make the driveway trip, even with my decade of Colorado foothill snow driving experience. I never attempted it with the R1T on the 22s but the 20s with the reportedly non-ideal tires work just fine.

Same boat. I wound up going with the 21s to max the range in the warm season (so far so good), and I'm going to get designated snow tires/wheels for winter. Lots of winter driving (Vancouver), skiing etc, and last winter I read enough reviews that had me concerned enough to want designated snow tires. Mostly still some slipping down hills with the 20" ATs. As you know, it can get REALLY slippery in the NW. And then I'm just going to use one of my off-season tires as a spare.
From what I have heard from several people in Bend re: their R1’s (both types) is that the quad motor has led them to lose traction coming down hills on slippery patches regardless of their tire/rim combo, even in snow mode. It seems to overcompensate for loss of traction.

Spent the winter in Tahoe through 600 inches of snow on 21s and had zero problems.

What size are your winter Michelin X-Ice? Looks like a good option.

Hi everyone, new (or at least 2 days out from being a new) Rivian owner here.

Also a PNW skier here - so going up roads of up to 14deg with compact snow. I've committed to the 21 inch tires already on a Quad Mower AWD R1T (without realizing you couldn't get the hakkas I have on my Tesla M3 as a simple switch out). It seems cost wise that the situation isn't that dissimilar- it'll cost about $6.3k to buy the wheels and tires that Rivian offer, or would have been an extra $3400 for the 22" tires, plus cost of new tires is about $2k plus fitting.

However, I have read reviews that the 21inch Pirelli tire with Regen (or snow mode) perform well on snow and ice. Does anyone have experience of these?

My other thought (because I may go up to Mount Cain which often genuinely requires chains irrespective of good winter tires) is to ensure I have low profile snow chains (recommendations anyone?) and ensure I carry Traction boards...and on this final point - are the cheaper ones on Amazon (e.g.https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07ZR8HR4F/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07ZR8HR4F&pd_rd_w=NtQp2&content-id=amzn1.sym.43f51e91-471e-46fd-9eb7-f35b3f7790d8&pf_rd_p=43f51e91-471e-46fd-9eb7-f35b3f7790d8&pf_rd_r=8BZHRA44RHGF44P2F83P&pd_rd_wg=1o55r&pd_rd_r=d30e9f27-f105-47bf-85e0-6466bfbd95b1&s=automotive&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWwy) any good or is it worth buying the Maxtrax or should I just not bother....?
