I have a Launch edition R1S and after almost a year with it, I am open to selling the vehicle.
It has all of the normal launch edition trim along with 22" wheels.
10K in miles. Ceramic coating and tinting. Selling because I'm not happy with the distance away I am from the El Segundo service center along with the difficulty in getting appointments. Nothing available within a reasonable period of time and couple that with the hassle of getting there and I think its time to move on. I've looked at Cars and Bids and I've contacted Driveway, Carmax and have gotten ridiculously low bids. Is there still a market on the forum where people are buying used? Ironically, when I first got the car, I was getting offers of over $125K for the car. Guess those days are LONGGGGGG gone.
Would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions. Not meant at all to try and sell car thru the forum.

FWIW "Ceramic coating and tinting" will not matter to many people on the used car market so don't overvalue them when you target a price.

I don't intend to sell my Rivian anytime but I have bought and sold a lot on various sites (mostly classic cars). You need to decide how much time you want to spend on selling and what your time is valued. An auction site like C&Bs is good but more time consuming and more work than selling to carmax. BTW, what did driveway and carmax offer? How much lower than recent sales on ebay or C&B?

There is also a site sponsor (I forget the name) to consider.

At this point, it's just a used car.

If you're offered more than 70 cents on the dollar after a year and 10k miles you're doing well.

I was kicking around selling mine and was getting low 70s offers...what are the lowball offers you've been getting? And I'm in same boat as you....the long wait times and the inability to actually fix the issue is what has me contemplating. SA should have an SC by next summer, but I imagine wait times for service will be as bad or worse.

Well, not really sure there was ever much of a market for these at $125K, regardless of what offers you got at the time. Only actually seen one or two of the very first ones reportedly sell at that level. If you sell, be prepared to take a loss. 70~80 % of current MSRP is a realistic estimate, closer to the 70% mark since you have 10K miles on it and it's a '22 model year. A private sale is going to be your best bet. Yes, you can list it here on the forums. Other than that, Cars and Bids, Bring A Trailer, eBay Motors, are the best 3 auction sites with the lowest fees and they seem to be getting higher sales prices than elsewhere. The last few R1S LE's I've seen go through these sites are selling around $85K give or take plus the buyer fees. So there are people out there willing to pay if you happen to have a configuration that attracts them. Used car dealers like CarMax etc.. are going to low-ball everything right now since they're all still recovering from acquiring so much high-dollar inventory while new cars were in short supply. I would only consider going that route at this time if you absolutely had to sell the car today, even at a loss, or if you can find something in their inventory you want that you can trade toward.

I realized I didn't answer your question: I would sell on a low cost (for sellers) auction site like C&B. I would not bother with ebay as it is full of insincere bidders IME. C&B, hemmings, etc. seem to draw car people compared to ebay. I would also set a reasonable reserve.

Now if you want to have fun and like cars, you could always take it to mecum or BJ for the experience (but you probably won't get the kind of price it sounds like you expect).

Since we’re having a discussion, and not selling… after a year, and with 10k miles, how much do you really think the market will bear? I’ve been watching the second hand R1S’s on the National market and it seems folks are still holding on to some high # dreams, but most aren’t moving and most do not have that much real use. Your’s has some love on it (not a knock, just saying). I sold my R1T with only 1,500 miles on it in the Spring and it amazed me how the offers folks tossed my way saying it was *very* used like it had 50k miles on it. Now honestly, it’s not personal, and I don’t fault anyone for trying, but I think we’re starting to see the S market following a similar path.

I am in the process of trading my 1 year old R1T with 11k miles in for an R1S. I contacted Driveway, Carmax, Vroom, etc and they all came back with low offers in the $58-61k range. Rivian offered right in the middle of the KBB trade in value ($73k). I think the used car market is incredibly soft right now. Not a lot of people spending on cars right now and interest rates are not helping.

I have had luck selling on Facebook Marketplace recently. It used to be Craigslist, but that has all but dried up and facebook has more eyeballs on it. I'm not a fan of the big auction sites with all their fees.

Rivian has a SC planned for TO/Oxnard area. Distance wise, probably not much different but drive time should be significantly less than a trip to ES. You may want to ask Rivian when will that SC opens, if that is of interest to you.

I recall when you got your vehicle last year. Hope its been a decently good year w/R1S, regardless of what you decide to do in the end..

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words. I was blown away by the Carmax bid. At the End of the day, I'm just going to keep the car. I love it. The stuff around it (service center) is what's annoying.

I'm in the same spot, I've decided to keep the R1S and sell the R1T. I've got 12k miles on mine, and from what I see a trade in offer of $73k is pretty reasonable.
