Every vehicle I've owned or rented in last 10 years has had free connection with music, and Rivian wants to add a $15/mo nuisance charge for this? I've owned my R1T for 2 months now and am seriously disappointed in how they do business, they will not build Tesla like loyalty with this kind of BS

You still have FM radio and a Bluetooth connection to stream music from your phone that will remain free. BTW, Rivian is not trying to create loyalty like Tesla. RJ is creating a company actually trying to better the world not just get rich.

So 10 years ago you owned an all electric pickup with 835hp and a wireless hotspot? Impressive.

Rivian was kind enough to spell ALL of this out from day 1, saying in-vehicle subscriptions were coming. It was mentioned in their IPO and talked about endlessly here for the last 4-5 years.

Stop with the fake outrage and do some research before you buy a vehicle. You aren’t required to purchase Connect+.

Connect+ is a lot more than just 'free connection with music.'

If you are not interested in the Connect+ service, I recommend connecting via Bluetooth and streaming your music that way.

You mentioned Tesla, which also has a monthly subscription for premium services, called Premium Connectivity.

What is Connect+?
Connect+ brings media, connectivity and live security to your Rivian with features like:

  • Apple Music and Audible apps integrated into the vehicle Center Display
  • In-vehicle hotspot
  • Satellite Images
  • Alexa Connected commands
  • Data to access music streaming apps like Apple Music, Audible, Spotify, Tidal and TuneIn
  • Google Cast and YouTube (coming soon)
  • Gear Guard Live Cam (coming later this year)
The 60-day trial of Connect+ for all existing Rivian owners will begin August 13, 2024. For anyone who takes delivery after that date, your trial will begin on the date of your delivery.

Connect+ will cost $14.99 per month ($19.99 CAD) or $149.99 per year ($199.99 CAD). You'll be notified towards the end of your trial and be able to sign up via the Rivian app, in-vehicle infotainment, and your Account Page.

Note: all Rivian vehicles continue to come with standard connectivity features such as:
  • Regular over-the-air software updates
  • Live navigation
  • Remote vehicle commands
  • Phone as a key
  • Alexa Basic (for vehicle commands)
  • Tethering (connecting the vehicle to an external Wi-Fi network or phone hotspot)
This is the clearest description of Connect+ I've seen. Thanks.

I will spin my opinion on Connect+. At first, I was upset about having to pay for it. Now, after being in the free trial, I am pleasantly surprised that I won't be missing anything usefully! Their implementation of Apple Music sucks, if I can tether my phone, then I have unlimited data, I have already added an additional screen for phone integration.

Thank you Rivian for making it easy to pass on Connect+. You have paid for a coffee and pastry one a month! ?

The Tesla who charges $10 per month without a hotspot. This isn’t even a higher quality troll.

Also they should have made it easier to allow us to put in our own SIM card. I talked to the Rivian after sales rep he mentioned they use AT&T. I have an extra line free on T-Mobile which I could use. Now it's have a Krave an extra phone in case I don't want to use mine.

Rivian is a business and not a charity.

It cost money to get a LTE / cellular connection for each vehicle from AT&T.

AT&T is not running a charity either.

This guy is a troll, granted. But what does horsepower have to do with anything? And Rivian hasn’t done anything out of “kindness” lol. What Koolaid is in the fridge? They do everything because they are required to by law.

If horsepower doesn’t have anything to do with it, then what does “koolaid” have to do with it? It was an illustration of how ridiculous it is to compare the connectivity of all his vehicles over the last 10 years and I think you know that.

Rivian included that revenue in their IPO documents because it makes their future prospects more attractive to investors. Not because the “law required them to”. They could have added this idea at any point in the years since and they would not be violating any laws.

The “kindness“ is that we did know it was coming and Rivian has provided periodic updates since the IPO. Also that it’s optional. They could have required some level of payment from everyone, couldn’t they?

Sorry someone crapped in your cheerios this morning. Go touch some grass and ask someone for a hug.
