Putting together options for a spare tire. My RS1 has the 22" dark wheels w/ the Pirelli 275/50 R22, but since this will be a spare I don't care if it does not match.

Found a 20" wheel on sale @EV Sportline. Coupled with a Nitto (NT420V 275 /60 R20 116H XL BSW) at Discount Tire - all in will cost $525. Can't find a used wheel/tire for that price.
Again, it won't match but it will be in the garage and hopefully never have to use it!

My question is about the tire size. This tire that DT recommended at 275/60 is 0.2" taller than the stock 275/60. Will this be ok if used temporarily if I have a flat?

275/50 R22 = 33.8" tall
275/60 R20 = 34" tall

It could be an issue. There was a recent thread about someone who discovered their shop installed 2 wrong tires (2 regular, 2 LT) on a 4 tire purchase. They had different diameter tires on the same axle with the following problems. You may decide this is OK to deal with temporarily, but be forewarned.

"Driving Changes:

  • Cruise Control: Cruise Control is now awful, and nearly unusable. In pretty much any situation, it feels like the car is just learning how "one pedal driving" works and is constantly adjusting the throttle input, causing the car to jerk forwards and backwards almost non-stop. The inputs to the throttle are subtle, but enough to make me almost sick. This is the most dramatic change to the driving behavior I've noticed.
  • Regen -> Physical Brake Transition Smoothness: In the past, the transition between motor regen and physical brakes operating has been so smooth that I couldn't ever tell when it was happening... now I feel like the motor-regen isn't as strong as it once was, and then when the physical brakes kick in it actually feels as if I put my foot down onto the brake pedal suddenly. This was particularly noticeable on a long downhill from Tahoe today.
  • Coasting Downhill to Acceleration: While coasting downhill from Meyers to Placerville, I noticed that if I wanted to increase my speed slightly (again while coasting downhill ... so lets say going from 55mph and deep in the regen, to wanting to go 57mph) the behavior felt weird..in the past I feel like it would have just reduced the regen and let the car naturally speed up, but now it was suddenly jumping to acceleration mode from the motors (orange on the throttle indicator on the dash), and accelerated much more quickly than I expected.
All in all, the "smoothness" of the power delivery really feels gone now... I feel like the car is constantly accelerating and slowing down. The transitions during braking are so unpredictable now that my thought I forgot how to drive!"

In this quote, you’re giving the height of a 275/65r20 tire - as shown in the tire comparison above a 275/60r20 it’s almost identical to your current 22 inch rim equipped tires.

This is very different issue if it’s to be used as a spare. The OEM compact spare, you can buy for an R1S - no matter if you’re equipped with 33 or 34 inch tires is the same size at just under 33 inches in diameter.

I would have preferred a full size spare for my gen 1 R1S vs the compact spare I have.
May I ask where you will carry the spare since it won't fit in the spare tire well of the R1S? Will this just sit in the cargo area and tied down?
Thanks.

I will most likely carry it on the roof basket/rack for road trips. I also plan to purchase this tire storage bag and keep it on hand if I need to place the dirty tire inside the cargo area. When I am not on a road trip I will just keep it stored at the house. If needed locally I can have someone bring it to me.

Thanks! I like that storage bag idea, and the idea of having a full size spare at home for local flats.

It will be fine. BTW, we probably have 1 wheel / used tire we can cut you a deal on, if you're not picky about wheel style or tire wear...or we could mount a new tire if prefered. PM me.

That tiresize site is pretty cool!

But now that I see my 275/65/20 KO2s on my Ram 2363 wheels are quite a bit taller than my OEM 22s haha.

Oops! But I've been running them for a long time in all purpose/standard height. If I go lowest, it will rub when I hit a dip at speed and very slight rub at full lock on slow turns.

This following site is even better if you have more details.
