Mine works fine but the phone gets hot because of where the charging pad is located. The sun coming in, the wireless charging, YouTube Music chugging along is a trifecta combo that heats the phone up pretty quick. OnePlus 8 Pro, in a case.

iPhone 13 and there is nowhere on the pad it will charge. Rivian tried to correct it when it was in service for another reason but it’s no better. I agree they should provide a warranty solution.

my iphone 12 max works fine on he charger. I have an otterbox case on it too - i put the phone on the pad with the top of the phone facing the passenger seat. Works well. I'd like a two phone solution.

Weird that my Ford Lightning doesn’t have the issue charging, or our Tahoe either
I can’t get my phone to charge in my wife’s Escalade but have no issues in my Rivian. In general, the technology seems to be hit or miss but there are so many variables because of the massive number of phone models and case combinations.

I found that it was virtually impossible to get my zFold3 to charge and that even if I did get it positioned properly, it would slide around once the truck moved. I measured out the location and 3D printed a bracket to hold my phone in place. It just grasps the sides of the phone to keep it there. I also made one that should be the right size/position for an iPhone 12/13 pro. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5441861

Great idea. Have any issues with phone skidding forward when you hit the brakes?

Nope, so far it seems to hold on tight enough that it doesn't move unless I want it to.

I have a 13 and a MagBak case and it charges and charges well, but I have to find the right spot and if I turn it moves. Just went on a 500+ mile road trip and as long as I was driving on straight highways then my phone was charging (and charging fast too, i was impressed). But the second I'd turn it stop charging.

Why is it useless?
Because it's very hard to find the right spot to put your phone so it will charge. If you manage to find it, the phone will move the moment the truck starts moving.

The harsh reality is Apple has moved away from charging standards and is driving customers to their proprietary MagSafe charging. It’s how Apple does business.

The pad isn’t great to start with, but it’s heavily compounded, by Apple is actively working against standard wireless charging.
This one has nothing to do with Apple. It's just as much of an issue for Android phones. Magsafe is a standard for connecting to the phone, but both Apple and Android phones can use the current standard without issue. Having magsafe in the truck would help fix the issue for Apple phones, but it would present an issue for non-apple phones that don't like magnets.

You can still use any wireless charger with an iPhone. That won’t change.

This simply isn’t true. Check this thread or just about any discussion about wireless charging on Rivian. The Androids that aren’t set up to prefer MagSafe work better (less bad?) and are less temperamental than any recent iPhone. There’s even a guy on this thread who said his non-MagSafe iPhone works better in the Rivian than the newer ones.

I know there are many threads Outlining diy fixes for the wireless charging pad, but I feel like this is something Rivian should be thinking about improving themselves. Has anyone reached out to their guide or CS or internal contacts about this?

I feel like there are relatively simple ways to fix the design, like putting ridges in the mat so the phone don’t slide around or something.
Mine works fine with my Otterbox case on a Samsung S21 Ultra...maybe it's the case, have not noticed sliding.
