Would you switch from R1S to R2S?

I currently have an R1T and preorder for an R1S. I'm considering canceling my order for the R1S and waiting for the R2S. I don't have a delivery window for the R1S yet (ordered July 2022) so I'd guess it would be early to mid-2024. I know I'd have to wait a couple of more years for the R2S.

I don't have a need for 3 rows and the R1T provides all the capability and performance I need. Going with a smaller, more nimble, and efficient SUV seems like a good move. Plus it will have the latest tech from Rivian whereas the R1, which sounds weird to say, but will be long in the tooth by 2024.

I'd be nice if I could convert my R1S reservation but doubt that will be allowed. For now, going to hold onto it and see how things unfold.

Since no one knows any concrete info about it, I don't understand how anyone could know the answer to that question.
I can easily say NO based on what Rivian has said.

Rivian has said that R2 will be smaller. I wish my R1S was bigger - so easy to rule out any interest in an R2.

The R2 doesn't exist, not even as a concept car let alone as a production vehicle that can be configured to order.

Anything can happen in the next 2-3 years (except the Mets winning the World Series).

If R2 and R1 were both available at the same time, I would never have taken any interest for R1S, much less buying one.

R1S is too big of a footprint and too heavy, so it was a close decision between R1S and Polestar 3, if delivery was at the same time. R1S won out.

Just as I never had any interest on Model S, due to size, I was glad when Model 3 was introduced. I'm sure R2S will be more agile and lighter vehicle than R1S.

No I won't be switching to R2S, when it comes out. I generally go buy some other brand as there are too many choices. I've never owned the same make or model consecutively or at the same time.

Definitely would! When I ordered my R1S in 2020, we still had three in tow. By my 2023 delivery, two have flown the coop!

Definitely would love a smaller version with what will undoubtedly be a quantum leap in battery efficiency/range by 2026.

I just hope Rivian doesn’t start monetizing features like others are doing ($300 garage opener “option” anyone?).

My impression is that R1S is to the Tesla Model X, as R2S is to the Tesla Model Y. Same design principals, half the cost, a reduction in size and performance.

I will trade in my R1S when there is an RnS that out-performs the current off-road vitals.

* The Rivian-patented per-wheel gearbox comes to mind. Where is that link and is there any rumored movement on this?

* Rivian winch option

* Rivian T-top option

* Removable doors

* Thick skin

* And yes, I am (or soon will be) in favor of closer to Bronco size.
