I think they should prioritize “teen mode” and/or “valet mode” - call it “Turo mode”; to me that’s the biggest blocker to wider Turo rentals. I wouldn’t feel comfortable renting mine out for kids to make TikTok videos of them jumping the hills here in SF in my precious EV.
I bet the Turo market prices would fall significantly if you could put up an 80mph limiter on the Rivian for anyone renting/borrowing your vehicle.
As it is you gotta price out the reckless people if you want to rent it out.
I feel strongly about this because I think secondary rental markets can help break through hesitancy for some consumers. My partner is FARRR more open to an electric now that our insurance paid for an EV temporary rental when our car was stuck at the shop, it was painless. Think of all the households considering this car or EVs in general, but they probably aren’t going to put down $500 a day to try it out…
