I didn't know you could long press to preview. Lot of people don't. You only know that it doesn't open the website after clicking.

My job has mandatory cyber security training every other month to try to stop old people from clicking every single thing that appears in their inbox (still doesnt stop them FYI). Maybe I take for granted that long pressing and hovering on hyperlinks have been a thing for the last 10 years.

You know its not a URL, because when you long press it, it open up the phone commands, not a website. Being skeptical is healthy, but it is also quite easy to see if it is legit or not.

How many will notice the difference between a phone number that's one digit off? I would be willing to bet $10 that it's more than 10% for an average person.

Again… there is no URL. You don’t have to worry about the difference between those 2 links because it doesn’t have any URL at all. Even old people can get it right 100% of time, as it’s just a phone number.

Again… there is no URL. You don’t have to worry about the difference between those 2 links because it doesn’t have any URL at all. Even old people can get it right 100% of time, as it’s just a phone number.

Akshualy it’s an URI, not URL. If it doesn’t go to a website, it’s not an URL. Prompts like tel: or mailto: are URIs.

Good catch. tel:// doesn't provide the protocol to use, so it's not a URL, but a URI, leaving the protocol selection to the viewing application. Of course, some helpful apps just recognize phone numbers and turn them into clickable items anyway, just to muddy the murky waters

So all is good.

You got screwed, I was identified as an executor of a now dead Nigerian prince and they're going to deposit 23 million dollars in my account. All I had to do is give them my name, social security number, both sides of my drivers license, birth certificate, passport and routing/account information. Simple verification in about 2 weeks and I'll be rich!
